The Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation has adopted an official symbol. The chosen emblem is the manul – a rare and charismatic inhabitant of Russian fauna, embodying the core values of one of the country’s leading economic universities.
Selecting this image for the university that trains financiers and managers is deeply symbolic. The manul is known not only for its wisdom and analytical abilities but also for its composure and inner kindness. This combination of qualities—strategic thinking, deep analysis, calm confidence, and benevolence—forms the foundation of the university’s "financial" character, which we aim to instill in our graduates.
“For us, the manul is much more than just a symbol. It reflects our academic and corporate DNA,” emphasized Stanislav Prokofiev, Rector of the Financial University. “We wanted an image that speaks of intellectual strength, fundamental values, and the uniqueness of our university. The manul perfectly conveys these meanings: it stands firmly on its ground, recognized as an expert in its environment, authentic and distinctive. Its outward restraint hides a kind and reliable nature—an essential quality for any professional. This symbol will serve as a visual code uniting our vibrant community of students, faculty, alumni, and partners. It will remind us all that true strength lies in knowledge, adaptability, and wisdom.
The legal protection of the new symbol was secured by the Center for Support of Technologies and Innovations at the Financial University, which handled the registration of the trademark with Rospatent.
In the near future, the new symbol will take a central place in the university’s corporate identity, appearing on official websites, merchandise, and campus spaces. It will visually emphasize the university’s uniqueness, modernity, and intellectual brand.
