On February 26, 2026, Rector of Financial University Stanislav Prokofyev and Dean of the Faculty of International Economic Relations Pavel Selesnev ceremoniously inaugurated the renovated Russian Language and Culture Room at Financial University.
The project was implemented as part of the research work "Russian Language – a Key to Success: An Innovative Cultural and Educational Space for Foreign Students," supported by the Financial University’s Scientific Fund under the direction of "Breakthrough Areas of Humanitarian Knowledge." The core philosophical concept was to create not just a classroom, but a multifunctional environment where every element works to foster a positive emotional response and overcome cultural barriers.
The development of the project involved: Irina Klimova, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication; Elena Ganina, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication and Head of the Russian Language Section; as well as Tatiana Satina and Alisa Al-Kaisi, teachers of the section.
The interior was completely updated, with the centerpiece being a large artistic mural—a vibrant painting themed around traditional Russian fairy-tale motifs, accompanied by a quote from Petr Vyazemsky. This serves as a powerful motivational tool, visualizing the connection between language and the nation’s cultural code.
The room is equipped with modern ergonomic furniture and an interactive panel, enabling multimedia lessons and virtual tours. The space’s content is equally significant: shelves are filled with educational and methodological literature on Russian as a Foreign Language, dictionaries, and adapted literary works for foreign students. Additionally, an exposition of Russian folk crafts—matryoshka dolls, items decorated with Khokhloma and Gzhel painting—is displayed, creating a “talking environment” that stimulates interest in traditional arts.
To enhance educational components, the walls of the room have been turned into a thematic gallery. It features portraits of Russian literary classics such as A.S. Pushkin, F.M. Dostoevsky, L.N. Tolstoy, and A.P. Chekhov. Each portrait is accompanied by a QR code that students can scan to learn biographical information and details about their notable works. All textual information is adapted for students with a basic command of Russian.
The creation of the "Russian Language Room" is part of a comprehensive adaptation model for international students, developed within the research project "Russian Language – a Key to Success." The space has become a resource center and a hub for over 2,000 international students from 80 countries. It will host not only Russian as a Foreign Language classes but also linguocultural seminars, communication clubs, and cultural events. The project aims to reduce language barriers, increase motivation to learn Russian, and promote a positive image of Russia as a country with a rich cultural heritage, ensuring effective integration of students into the academic and sociocultural environment of the Russian university.
The opening of this new room continues the development of the university’s language infrastructure: previously, themed rooms for Arabic and Chinese languages were opened for Russian students. Now, foreign students have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the richness of Russian culture directly within the main university building.
The specialized classroom space is located at: Leningradsky Prospekt, Building 49/2, Room 430.
