Program description

Dear applicants!

Our Program "Insurance Business" has been developed and implemented at the Financial University for more than 10 years. We train international specialists in insurance on the basis of traditional Russian educational and scientific systems. We integrate theory with practice and cooperate with All-Russian Union of Insurers, the National Insurance Guild, insurance, financial, industrial organisations, and the Bank of Russia. 

We prepare highly qualified personnel with modern knowledge of international and domestic theory and practice for the insurance market, supervisory bodies, risk management systems in industry, financial and credit spheres, agriculture, defense, and social sphere.

The program examines organisation, functioning and development of insurance business in the Russian Federation and abroad, actuarial calculations, business processes, financial management in insurance, investment policy, reinsurance, management and financial accounting, as well as applied aspects of insurance. Unique competencies of graduates guarantee 100% employment in Russian and international public and private organisations.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to

  • Launch and regulate progressive trends in developing the insurance market and its participants; research and evaluation models of insurance markets and their participants, the sustainability of insurance markets; insurance contribution to the formation of GDP and GRP;
  • Effectively manage insurance and reinsurance organizations, insurance supervision bodies, and risk management systems;
  • Identify and implement promising risk management systems for policyholders and insurers;
  • Audit and apply actuarial models of tariff policy management, insurance reserves, solvency; assess and forecast insurance business development.
  • Manage tariff and investment policy, money turnover, financial results of insurance organizations; regulate the solvency of Russian and foreign insurance organizations.
  • Regulate the functioning of insurance organizations in the international market; reinsurance programs; investment policy in the international insurance business.

Key disciplines of the concentration

Insurance Supervision

Students study evolution of insurance supervision in the Russian Federation, insurance supervision in the structure of the Bank of Russia, and topical issues of insurance supervision at the present stage. Moreover, the discipline focuses on the main directions of the insurance supervision development and foreign practices.

Business Processes in an Insurance Company

Students study modern methods of managing business processes in the insurance organisation. Moreover, the discipline focuses on the technological cycle of insurance as the basis for business processes in the insurance organisation, their consistency and content.

Insurance Services Market Structuring and Regulation

Students study the organisational structure of the insurance market. They learn how to apply the theory of institutional changes to the insurance market. Moreover, this discipline focuses on possibilities and limitations of statistical, market, and sociological information analyses for regulating and developing the insurance market.

Financial Management of an Insurance Company

Students study specifics of finance in insurance, management of capital, investment activities of insurance organisations. They learn how to assess financial conditions of insurance organisations, as well as methods of rapid analysis of financial conditions of insurers for making business decisions.

International Insurance Business

Theory and practice of international insurance business. The basic principles of the international association of insurance supervisors. International organisations of insurance business. Definition of the main macroeconomic indicators.

Accounting and Actuarial Assessment in Insurance Companies

Accounting types of insurance operations. Accounting of income and expenses of the insurance organisation, insurance reserves, financial results of insurance organisations. Actuarial basis. Federal Standards of actuarial activities.

Our graduate students are employed by insurance and reinsurance organizations, insurance brokers; structural divisions of risk management organizations; economic, financial, marketing and analytical divisions and services of organizations of various forms of ownership, the Bank of Russia, ministries, etc.

Students have internships at the Bank of Russia, ministries and departments, the Russian National Reinsurance Company, Russian and foreign insurance and reinsurance companies, insurance brokers, state and commercial risk management structures, banks, analytical, consulting, audit companies, etc.
