Program description

The sports industry is one of the most promising sectors of the modern economy, and the demand for highly qualified management specialists in this industry is always high. At the same time, the junction of management, marketing and sports spheres has its own specific features, and all its aspects are thoroughly studied within the master’s program “Sports Management and Marketing”.

The program focuses on training managers for sports clubs, leagues, federations, sports agencies, sports facilities, esports structures, manufacturers of sports equipment, bookmakers, sports media, and fitness industry.

The main emphasis in the educational process is laid on a unique practice-oriented knowledge base, maintained through cooperation with leading sports organizations. Leaders of the sports industry give lectures for our graduate students, and field trips to sports facilities are regularly organized for students. We aid with organizing internships and bringing our students’ business ideas in life. We reveal the creative and professional potential of our students through a unique in-house working experience.

The training is based on real cases from the Russian and international practice of sports management.

  • Doctor of Economics.
  • Authored over 100 publications in Russian and English on the management in sports.
  • Consultant to UEFA (projects: GROW, Social Return on Investments, Business Case for Women's Football). 
  • Member of the Appeal Committee on the results of licensing of the RFU. 
  • Member of the Expert Council of the Russian Student Sports Union and the Commission on Intersectoral, Investment and Regional Development in the Field of Physical Culture and Sports (Public Council under the Ministry of Sports of Russia). 
  • Has experience in elaborating development strategies, KPI systems and financial models for sports clubs and federations. 
  • One of the authors of the strategies for the development of football in Russia for the period up to 2020 and 2030. Participated in scientific research commissioned by the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Sports of Russia, the Government of Moscow.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to

  • Form a marketing strategy of a sports organization/competition/project, sponsorship packages, loyalty programs for fans and consumers, ticket, and subscription programs.
  • Form business plans and financial models for investment projects in the sports industry, evaluate the value of business in sports, as well as individual assets of sports organizations.
  • Form an effective system of interaction with all stakeholders of the sports industry: fans, sponsors, broadcasters, international sports federations, government agencies.
  • Develop strategies for various sports organizations and sports industry markets.
  • Attract financing for implementing sports projects in the debt and equity capital markets.
  • Develop a system of key performance indicators (KPIs) for sports organizations, individual departments and employees.
