The master’s program “Corporate Finance and ESG-Transformation” is a new generation program and was developed based on the educational standard of higher education of the Federal State Educational Institution of Higher Education “Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation”.
The program is aimed at training financiers with knowledge of ESG criteria and ESG investment, analysts for rating agencies, ESG specialists and employees of IR departments.
The partner of the program is Rusal, a leading company in the aluminum industry and one of the world’s largest producers of aluminum with a low carbon footprint (ALLOW brand). Rusal was the first in the industry to implement a revolutionary technology of electrolyzers with an inert anode, which allows reducing CO2 emissions to almost zero at the metal production stage. In 2021, the company announced a large-scale program of aluminum plants’ environmental restructuring in Siberia.
Students will learn more about the current situation of the transition to a low-carbon economy, understand more trends in economics and politics related to climate change, will study the actions of international organizations and financial institutions to promote the sustainable development agenda, the actions of the Russian government and the governments of the leading powers in this area.
Also the students will learn the following ESG directions: company transformation, green business model construction (for example, environmental restructuring of energy companies, closed-loop timber companies, the use of renewable energy sources, etc.).
The purpose of the discipline is to form students’ theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and possessions related to the role and place of corporations in the modern green economy of the Russian Federation and the sustainable development of the country. The discipline includes the study of the following problems: the principles of corporate law that determine the content of corporate legal relations in the corporations’ activities; the legal basis for ensuring the activities of corporate management bodies, the competence of management bodies in accordance with the norms of corporate legislation, etc.
The discipline is aimed to form systematic knowledge and practical skills in the field of corporate governance in Russia and abroad.
The discipline is aimed to form students’ readiness for professional activity in a competitive environment, the organizational and legal foundations of the development knowledge and management decisions adoption skills in corporations, to apply various technologies and managerial decision-making methods in corporate governance and control bodies.
The discipline is aimed to form students’ readiness for professional activity, considering the principles of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. The discipline includes the study of the following problems: key concepts of corporate social responsibility and business ethics; integration of CSR principles into the company’s business processes and corporate governance system; Russian and foreign practice of companies’ participation in solving social problems; companies’ social responsibility level assessment and activity results’ reflection in non-financial reporting; ethical compliance in companies.
Students will have the opportunity to find a job at enterprises of various industry orientation, in banks, analytical, consulting companies, audit firms.
The main consumers of specialists who have received training in this master's degree program in the labor market are structural units engaged in the development and implementation of sustainable development strategies; units for interaction with investors in public companies in global financial markets.
The master’s degree program was created to fully consider new economic challenges associated with climate change and the need to develop a low-carbon economy.
The program was aimed at successfully competing in the international market of educational programs, as well as meeting the demand for qualified personnel in the field of corporate finance and sustainable development.
The program implementation will create conditions to train personnel with analytical and research competencies in the field of corporate finance and sustainable development for the needs of the Russian economy in the conditions of its ESG restructuring.
Graduates will have new professional competencies that have no analogues in classical higher economic education in Russia, including those who want to build a career in IR and ESG.
