Program description

The Faculty of Finance is the driver of financial education in the Russian Federation, a forge of highly professional personnel for business and public authorities. Innovative educational programs implemented at the Faculty, a project approach to training, close relationship with employers – all this has been the “starting capital” of our graduates for a successful career as a financier for many years.

The program “Economics and Finance” embodies more than a century of history of the Faculty of Finance and its scientific schools. During the educational process, special attention is paid to the convergence of the theory and practice of the organization and management of finances of the public and private sectors of the economy, financial market institutions, banks (banks and other credit organizations, investment funds, insurance and other financial organizations).

Training at the Faculty of Finance is conducted using a project approach, the curricula include workshops and work in the laboratory of Thomson Reuters.

Scientific work is an obligatory component of the educational process, it is conducted in relevant areas of modern research in various areas of finance development, allows students to prepare scientific publications, reports at conferences, take prizes at competitions and Olympiads.

Students get internships in financial and treasury bodies, financial services of executive authorities, control and accounting bodies, state extra-budgetary funds, state corporations, financial departments of commercial organizations, banks, including the Bank of Russia, non-bank financial organizations, other institutions of the financial market, and the stock exchange.

The Faculty of Finance implements a unique modular approach to elective disciplines (each module includes three elective disciplines at once). Both general professional modules and sets of specialized disciplines are offered to students.

The concentration provides training based on an optimal combination of fundamental training of students and practical skills obtained through close integration of theory with practice, secured by cooperation agreements with leading employers; participation of representatives of the Pension Fund, Social Insurance Fund  and Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor of Russia, the Bank of Russia, the All-Russian Union of Insurers, Rosgosstrakh, medical institutions, companies of real sectors of the economy in the educational process.

The concentration is implemented by the Financial University together with Anglia Ruskin University (double-degree program) (UK) and is aimed at training specialists in the development of new banking products and technologies, financial instruments that provide risk management and profitability of financial and credit institutions, improving monetary mechanisms for regulating the economy and managing financial flows at macro and micro levels. Tuition in the UK is paid separately in accordance with the fees set by the host University.

  • In 1985, he graduated from the Financial and Economic Faculty of the Moscow Financial Institute with a degree in Finance and Credit. Immediately after graduation, he came to work in the Ministry of Finance of the RSFSR. Since 1997-Head of the Department of Macroeconomic Policy and Banking, since 2003 — Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation. On December 16, 2011, he was appointed Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation. He was awarded the Order" For Services to the Fatherland " of the III degree and the medal of this Order of the I degree.

Students obtain the knowledge and analytical skills necessary for the management of financial resources in the public sector and financial decision-making by institutional units of the public sector.

The purpose of the discipline is to form up-to-date knowledge in the field of corporate finance and the financial market, disclosure and interpretation of financial information as well as managerial decision-making skills in the field of cash flows.

Taxes and the Tax System of the Russian Federation

The discipline is dedicated to the causes of taxes, the historical process of turning taxes into the main source of state income, the economic nature of taxes and their purpose.

Financial Markets

The discipline is aimed at gaining knowledge about financial markets, financial institutions, financial instruments (securities and derivatives) and the risks accompanying the functioning of financial institutions and instruments.

Insurance

The discipline is aimed at forming students’ holistic understanding of the theory and practice of insurance activities, functioning of the insurance market and insurance organizations, insurance technologies and business processes, and the development of insurance products.
