The Faculty of Finance is the driver of financial education in the Russian Federation, a forge of highly professional personnel for business and public authorities. Innovative educational programs implemented at the Faculty, a project approach to training, close relationship with employers – all this has been the “starting capital” of our graduates for a successful career as a financier for many years.
The program “Economics and Finance” embodies more than a century of history of the Faculty of Finance and its scientific schools. During the educational process, special attention is paid to the convergence of the theory and practice of the organization and management of finances of the public and private sectors of the economy, financial market institutions, banks (banks and other credit organizations, investment funds, insurance and other financial organizations).
Training at the Faculty of Finance is conducted using a project approach, the curricula include workshops and work in the laboratory of Thomson Reuters.
Scientific work is an obligatory component of the educational process, it is conducted in relevant areas of modern research in various areas of finance development, allows students to prepare scientific publications, reports at conferences, take prizes at competitions and Olympiads.
Students get internships in financial and treasury bodies, financial services of executive authorities, control and accounting bodies, state extra-budgetary funds, state corporations, financial departments of commercial organizations, banks, including the Bank of Russia, non-bank financial organizations, other institutions of the financial market, and the stock exchange.
The Faculty of Finance implements a unique modular approach to elective disciplines (each module includes three elective disciplines at once). Both general professional modules and sets of specialized disciplines are offered to students.
The concentration focuses on training personnel for financial and treasury bodies, state corporations and institutions; it allows you to obtain knowledge in the field of development and implementation of budget policy, organization of the budget process, financing of national projects and state programs, public procurement, and gain skills in the SIIS “Electronic Budget".
Our graduates work in public authorities and local self-government, including financial and treasury bodies, state financial control bodies, state extra-budgetary funds management bodies, state corporations, state and municipal institutions, consulting and audit companies.
The concentration provides training based on an optimal combination of fundamental training of students and practical skills obtained through close integration of theory with practice, secured by cooperation agreements with leading employers; participation of representatives of the Pension Fund, Social Insurance Fund and Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor of Russia, the Bank of Russia, the All-Russian Union of Insurers, Rosgosstrakh, medical institutions, companies of real sectors of the economy in the educational process.
Our graduates have expertise in social policy, economics, business and entrepreneurship in the social sphere, finance of healthcare organizations, education and science, entertainment industry, sports, and the activities of state authorities.
The concentration is aimed at training specialists in the field of organizing the budget process, state control in the financial and budgetary sphere, internal financial audit, with systemic expert-analytical, accounting and control competencies.
Our graduates are employed by financial bodies and state audit bodies, control units of state authorities and local self-government bodies, state corporations and institutions, consulting and audit organizations.
The knowledge of the oldest scientific school in Russia on financial risk management, insurance and practical skills obtained through the close integration of theory with practice are actively applied in the educational process. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of insurance, financial risk management, and corporate finance, as well as obtain a fundamental understanding of the Russian and foreign insurance and financial markets.
We prepare specialists for financial departments of commercial organizations engaged in financial risk management and for insurance organizations. A practice-oriented approach to education is ensured by cooperation agreements with leading employers, for instance, the All-Russian Union of Insurers, the National Insurance Guild, Rosgosstrakh, other financial and insurance companies.
Financial Markets and Fintech
As part of training in this concentration, students acquire in-depth knowledge and skills both in IT and in the functioning of financial markets, which will allow graduates of the concentration to effectively organize the current activities of financial market institutions, financial, marketing and analytical departments and services of various organizations in the context of digitalization, develop and implement innovative financial and credit products, new business models.
Those students who chose the program “Financial Markets and Fintech" are prepared for their future career in the Bank of Russia, commercial banks, investment companies, insurance companies, real sector enterprises, departments of commercial banks. They will work as analysts, portfolio managers, traders, risk managers, developers of company financing programs, corporate finance specialists (including mergers and acquisitions), specialists in the development of new financial products, etc.
The concentration is implemented by the Financial University together with Anglia Ruskin University (double-degree program) (UK) and is aimed at training specialists in the development of new banking products and technologies, financial instruments that provide risk management and profitability of financial and credit institutions, improving monetary mechanisms for regulating the economy and managing financial flows at macro and micro levels. Tuition in the UK is paid separately in accordance with the fees set by the host University.
Our graduates are employed by organizations participating in the financial market, primarily banks and non-bank credit organizations, non-credit financial organizations, financial market regulatory authorities, investment companies, mutual funds, stock exchanges as well as in the financial departments of companies in various sectors of the economy.
The concentration is aimed at training highly qualified financial personnel who understand the issues of finance and financial assets management at the macro and micro levels, who are able to manage financial flows competently taking into account modern challenges, risks and requirements and effectively solve the problems of financial regulation.
Our graduates are employed by financial, economic, investment, analytical, marketing departments and services of commercial organizations. As part of the training, students acquire a full range of competencies in the field of finance, credit, corporate finance with in-depth knowledge in the field of financial asset management of the state and corporations.
The studies are aimed at training highly professional financiers with in-depth competencies in the field of financial management, the use of treasury technologies and tools in the public and corporate sectors of the economy, analysis and investment decision-making.

The purpose of the discipline is to form up-to-date knowledge in the field of corporate finance and the financial market, disclosure and interpretation of financial information as well as managerial decision-making skills in the field of cash flows.
The discipline is dedicated to the causes of taxes, the historical process of turning taxes into the main source of state income, the economic nature of taxes and their purpose.
The discipline is aimed at gaining knowledge about financial markets, financial institutions, financial instruments (securities and derivatives) and the risks accompanying the functioning of financial institutions and instruments.
The discipline is aimed at forming students’ holistic understanding of the theory and practice of insurance activities, functioning of the insurance market and insurance organizations, insurance technologies and business processes, and the development of insurance products.
Students study the essence of finance, financial transactions, financial systems, financial resources, financial crises, professional ethics, functional foundations of financial management.

The elective discipline “Public Procurement” involves the study of the financial mechanism of public procurement, treasury support of contracts and control in the field of procurement for public needs.

The elective discipline “Ratings in Economics” involves the study of ratings and rankings of market entities, the construction of budget and sovereign credit ratings, and rating control.

Each concentration of the educational program “Economics and Finance” includes professional modules of elective disciplines that allow you to expand knowledge in a specific subject area (for example, “Public Finance Management”, “State Audit”, “Financial Market Operations”, “Corporate Risk Management” and etc).

Students of the concentration “Finance and Banking” are given a unique opportunity to study during their junior year at Anglia Ruskin University (UK). After successfully completing a year of study and defending their graduation thesis in the UK, graduates get two degrees – from Anglia Ruskin University and Financial University.
Graduates of specialized colleges receive a reduced individually tailored curriculum which takes up to 3 years.
