Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications is one of the most authoritative platforms for the training of political scientists in our country. In 2019, it was included in the top ten social science faculties of Russia according to the Expert magazine.
In 2020, according to the Ucheba.ru portal, the average score of the Unified State Exam in Political Science was the fourth in Russia.
Applicants consistently choose our program, because it combines the best traditions of classical university education with modern interactive forms of education; allows students to participate in applied scientific research, as well as solve cases commissioned by employers and in the process of learning to receive not only various skills, but also, in fact, to determine the place of future professional activity.
In the process of implementing the program, the Faculty considers the main educational trends and current demands in the labor market as much as possible. The basic profile related to the specifics of the University is “Political Science of Economic Processes”. This program has been successfully implemented since 2010 and has no direct analogues in the educational market of the Russian Federation. Considering the accumulated experience, the presence of many practical teachers and the socio-political situation, a new profile “Political Technologies” was opened in 2021.
The Faculty has built a multi-stage education system: bachelor’s degree alumni can continue their studies in the master’s degree programs “Political Consulting and Strategic Analysis” and “PR and GR Technologies in Politics and Business”, and then in the postgraduate program “Political Institutions, Processes and Technologies”. There is also a dissertation council.

About the concentration:
The profile “Political Science of Economic Processes” is aimed at training highly qualified personnel of international level by mastering the latest achievements of political science during studies, as well as using an interdisciplinary approach which is an organic combination of knowledge in politics and economics. The emphasis is made on the theoretical study and practice of interaction between business and government structures, energy strategies of states and the struggle for world energy resources. The teaching methodology combines the best traditions of the Russian higher school with new requirements and competencies dictated by the processes of digitalization and the development of the “knowledge economy”. Special attention is paid to the synthesis of fundamental and applied aspects, as well as to the employers’ requirements. As part of the educational program, research work is carried out, the main directions of which are: political, economic, and other foundations of the stability of modern states; the main trends in the development of national states in the context of globalization; technologies of stabilization and destabilization of state regimes, etc.

In the profile “Political Technologies", special attention is paid to the development of digital political tools, the study of political consulting basics, foreign experience of modern lobbying, election campaign technologies. Bachelors of the profile “Political Technologies" can solve such professional tasks as organizing and conducting election campaigns, creating, and promoting political parties and social movements, forming, and maintaining the image of public figures, influencing public opinion, ensuring effective interaction with public authorities, etc. Depending on their personal interests, students can deepen their knowledge within the elective modules, such as Soft Power Technologies, Modern Communication Technologies, Modernization and Construction of Political Institutions, Modern Socio-Political Trends, Relevant Analytical Tools, Preparation and Political Decision-Making. Modern methods, technologies and teaching techniques are used in the educational process. As part of the program, active research and design and creative work is being carried out with students in priority areas in the field of modern political parties and forms of political activity, modern ideologies, and ways to promote them.
The educational program is designed for the employers' needs: state, regional, local authorities and management, mass media, PR and GR companies, political parties, and public organizations. Possible professions of alumni are political strategist, GR specialist, lobbyist, PR specialist, image maker, political manager, employee of the apparatus of state authorities and management, speechwriter, etc.
Discipline forms an idea of the stages of making and implementing political and managerial decisions, allows you to study modern administration technologies and ways to measure the effectiveness of public administration.
The discipline includes the study of political analysis and approaches to forecasting social processes and political events. Special attention is paid to the study of methods of working with the information flow.
The discipline is aimed at enabling to conduct independent scientific research using the studied theoretical and methodological approaches, research methods and political concepts of modern political science.
Alumni of the program have the skills of information, analytical and organizational work, are in demand in the consulting business, in business and political journalism, in public authorities and the apparatus of political parties, in the field of corporate PR, as well as in analytical centers engaged in the assessment of political, economic, and social processes. Alumni can work as political strategist, election campaign specialist, political analyst, political manager, GR-specialist, lobbyist, political scientist, PR-specialist, an employee of the apparatus of state authorities and management; a journalist; a political expert; an employee of the apparatus of political parties, an international expert.
