Program description

The educational program “Foreign Trade, Customs and Currency Regulation" is aimed at training specialists in customs affairs with comprehensive knowledge and skills to work in customs authorities, foreign trade, and logistics companies.

The program focus meets international standards within Russia's economic cooperation with foreign countries and their associations, international economic and commodity organizations, as well as the high demand on the labor market for trained specialists who have relevant knowledge in the customs legislation of the Eurasian Economic Union, can represent the interests of foreign trade companies in customs operations.

  • The program is especially oriented at LINGUISTIC TRAINING:
  • improving the level of English language proficiency, including vocabulary and documentation study in the field of customs and logistics. Some professional disciplines are taught in English (“World Trade Organization Law", the workshop “International Trade Negotiations", “Information Trading Systems in International Business", "Practice of Using Information and Trading Systems in International Entrepreneurship", “Pricing on World commodity markets");
  • from the 1 year study of a second foreign language to choose from (Chinese, Spanish, German, French). A foreign language is studied from the initial level and before preparing for passing the relevant international exams;
  • opportunities to get a second diploma “Translator/Interpreter in International Economic Relations" or “Translator/Interpreter in Professional Communication" with studied disciplines and additional study of several modules accounted.

The only FinU program with a long MANDATORY summer internship from 2 to 5 courses (two academic, industrial and pre-graduate practice). For practical training, students are sent to regional customs administrations, electronic customs offices, electronic declaration centers, ministries and departments, commercial organizations engaged in foreign economic activity, banks, tax authorities, etc.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to

  • Manage supply chains to provide customs support for the foreign trade business and support management decisions
  • Use a risk management system for the import and export of goods to or with the EEU customs territory
  • Perform audit and internal audit of foreign trade organizations, evaluate business processes, projects, identify control procedures
  • Carry out customs and currency control when performing customs operations and procedures
  • Administer customs revenues, calculate customs payments, and control their payment
  • Ansure compliance with the RF legislation in settlements on foreign trade transactions
  • Determine the origin and customs value of goods
  • Identify and prevent violations in the customs payments and currency control
  • Apply IT systems and technologies of electronic declaration, payment of customs payments, unified personal accounts.

Module of Customs and Currency Regulation of Foreign Economic Activity

A block of 6 disciplines where students learn foreign economic activity customs regulation and currency control implementation, developing their skills in supporting customs operations and customs procedures’ application, the use of customs institutions for intellectual property rights protection

Module for Calculating Customs Payments, Taxes and Declaration

Within the block of 5 workshops students will learn more about the taxation procedure of foreign trade organizations and customs payment calculation, determining the goods’ country of origin, the formation of the goods customs value and the mechanism of transfer pricing in foreign trade, as well as they get skills of goods and vehicles’ customs declaration

Module of Commodity Science and Customs Control Technologies

A block of 5 disciplines where students get skills in commodity science and expertise of food and non-food products, modern customs control technologies’ knowledge, customs administration methods and traceability systems, the ability to identify, prevent and suppress customs offenses and crimes

Information Technology Module in Customs

From the 2 to the 5 years, students learn to work with the most common IT solutions for customs and logistics business support, electronic declaration, remote release, preliminary information, electronic freight, as well as with software complexes of the Federal Customs Service of Russia for interaction with participants of foreign trade and document management in customs authorities

Module of Project Work in Foreign Trade Organizations and Customs Authorities

From the 1 to the 5 years, students carry out projects in foreign trade and customs, logistics business support, commodity science and expertise, control and analytical customs field. The project work is completed by mandatory summer internship in customs authorities and foreign economic partner companies of the FinU

Module of Analysis, Assessment and Risk Management in the Professional Sphere

A block of control and analytical disciplines aimed at developing audit and internal control skills, risk analysis and assessment, risk management in customs, as well as post-customs audit and control

Module of Customs and Logistics Business Support

A block of practice-oriented disciplines where students develop their skills in customs cargo tracking and registration of foreign trade documentation, customs business support and supply chain management (partly in English)

Modules of Linguistic Orientation (with two options)

In 4-5 years, students can choose to study advanced business translation technologies in English (with a possibility to obtain a second diploma “Translator/Interpreter in International Economic Relations”), or improve a professional second foreign language and prepare for a relevant international exam

Module of Geo-Economics, Economic and Legal Bases of Foreign Trade Activity

A block of 6 disciplines where students study economic geography and world regionalism, economic potential of the customs territories of Russia and the basics of foreign trade, international trade law and WTO law (in English)
