Program description

The educational program “Global Politics” focuses on the study of geopolitical problems and the main aspects of international relations. Ideas about global politics and its trends in our country are currently under strong pressure from the mass media. From non-professional telegram channels and YouTube blogs to prime-time broadcasts on federal channels of various kinds, “internationalists” issue a scientific product that has nothing to do with either science or expertise. In reality, the science of world politics and international relations has stepped far ahead in comparison with the traditional perception of an international expert as a person who has contacts in the region under study and brings back the results of field research from there. The analysis of social networks, the collection of databases, the methods of empirical sociology that allow us to characterize the mass consciousness of billions of countries, working with big data – all these tools, when used correctly, are able to create new knowledge about the world, complementing the traditional ones.

The educational program “Global Politics” is designed to teach students to navigate through knowledge, building their hierarchy in terms of objectivity and usefulness; to form critical thinking skills in relation to specialized media; to provide with an opportunity to master the basic analytical tools of modern international affairs; to explore the formation of international systems and the transformation of the basic legal principles of modern world politics; to give an idea of the models international conflicts and ways to resolve them; to form an idea of the national interests of the leading world powers and the points of their collision; to teach how to carry out the examination of doctrinal documents and identify their contradictions.
