About the department

The Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning of the Faculty of Finance was created by the decision of the Rector and the Academic Council of the University from July 1, 2020, by separating a part of the faculty of the Department of Economic Theory.

The Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning continues the scientific and pedagogical traditions of the previously existing Department of Macroeconomic Management at the Financial University.

New goals of the Department

The reconstitution of the Department with the updated name and structure was driven by the extraordinary actualization of the tasks of strategic planning and systematic forecasting of socio-economic processes at the global and national levels.

The Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning was created as a unique scientific and education center with the dominant vector of scientific activity.

The main partner of the Department is the leading Russian scientific and methodical center the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEF RAS). Currently, the IEF RAS is the leading scientific institution in the country that conducts fundamental and applied research in the field of macroeconomic analysis and forecasting.

The mission of the Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning is the purposeful training of highly professional economists in the field of planning and forecasting, who possess deep systemic knowledge and are capable of analytical, expert, research, and development activities.

The main professional competencies to be developed among the students of the Department:

  • To select and use the main methods and tools for forecasting and planning processes at the national and regional levels, taking into account the analysis of global economic trends;
  • To substantiate operational, tactical and strategic decisions on managing the development of the national economy based on the obtained forecasting results and possible risks;
  • To determine the socio-economic effects of the implemented programs aimed at developing the national economy (and regions), strategic plans and projects;
  • To form macroeconomic goals and tasks of the development of the national economy on the basis of objective prerequisites of the economy of regions and the regularities of spatial development;
  • To provide advisory services on the development and implementation of systems of strategic planning, forecasting, programming, and design for the development of subjects at different levels (macro, meso and micro levels).
