June 22, 1941 is one of the saddest dates in the history of Russia. Day of Remembrance and Sorrow is the day of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

This day reminds us of all those who died in battles, who were tortured in the fascist captivity and who died from starvation and deprivation. We mourn all those who at the cost of their lives did their sacred duty and defended our Fatherland in those harsh years.

Early in the morning of June 22, 1941, without a declaration of war, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union, striking at military and strategic facilities and many cities. Thus, the Great Patriotic War began, which lasted 1418 days and nights, during which the USSR lost about 27 million people.

The war ended with the victory of the Soviet Union, but at a great cost. It cost the Soviet people a lot of suffering and enormous losses.

We will always remember that!
