Skillbox Holding Limited, an educational holding which is owned by VK, has launched Academika, a new EdTech platform. The platform allows you to study online courses from leading universities and industrial partners. Users already have access to more than 200 different courses from 15 leading Russian universities in online education: Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, MGIMO, MIPT, HSE, TSU, NSU, MISIS, etc.

What is Academika?

Academika is an EdTech platform that unites students, the largest universities in the country, as well as industrial partners. It implements the technology of teaching without teachers with automatic checking of homework. All Academic courses are aggregated in a user-friendly interface, with visualization of learning progress and with modern task completion formats.

How does learning on the platform work? 

The platform currently presents 8 key areas and more than 100 topics, including IT development, design, marketing, etc. In addition to paid courses, about 20% of the content on the platform is free. Also, at the start of the project, after authorization, users are given free access to two modules from all courses, which can be used within 10 days.

The potential target audience of the courses is 18+ users who prefer online education, want to develop and acquire new skills in a short period of time. At the same time, the author of the course, the company or the university are important.

According to Daria Ryzhkova, founder of the Smart Ranking agency, which annually ranks Russian EdTech players, the collaboration of companies with universities was an expected step in the Russian online education market. According to Smart Ranking, the volume of the Russian EdTech market in the first half of 2023 exceeded 50 billion rubles, which is 35% higher than the level of 2022. By the end of 2023, the agency predicts growth to 110 billion rubles, Daria Ryzhkova said.
