On June 8, 2023, the Faculty of International Economic Relations met the participants of the V Moscow Academic Economic Forum “Global Economic Development Trends: the Role and Place of Russia” (MAEF-2023). A plenary meeting “Russia’s Strategy in the Transition to a New World Economic Order” was held at the FinU. 

The meeting was opened by Pavel Seleznev, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Doctor of Political Sciences, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the FinU, who formulated the task of the conference  to form an image of the future that we are building in Russia in difficult political and economic conditions, relying on traditions and studying the experience of our colleagues and opponents abroad. Pavel Seleznev stressed the importance of participation at a conference of FinU postgraduate students and students, quoting the eastern wisdom, “If you want to defeat the enemy, bring up his children.” 

More than 80 teachers, scientists and postgraduates took part in the conference, the speeches were broadcast on social networks.  Among the speakers were representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow State University, Higher School of Economics, FinU. In the most interesting speeches, the proposals of scientists on the sustainable development of our country were made. Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences G.B. Kleiner devoted his report to the idea of building a unified national economic complex in Russia, interconnected at all levels, micro, macro and meso. In his opinion, it is extremely important now to focus on the connectivity of the Russian economy and building sustainable alliances from countries with different types of economies. In the speech of Professor, Scientific director of the Institute of Global Studies of the FinU Faculty of IER A.I. Ilyinsky, modern trends in the world order transformation, traditionally based on the military or economic domination of the countries from the core in relation to the states of the periphery, were considered. Currently, the monetary domination of the United States is collapsing and the foundations of a new world order are emerging. Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communications and Media Business of the FinU L.V. Krutakov stressed the importance of changes in the Russian economy structure, the need for a technological breakthrough, which is impossible without changing the target attitudes of citizens from market aspects (striving for profit, enrichment) to political thinking (willingness to defend their vision of the future). 

Professor of the FinU Department of Economic Theory S.N. Levin in his report analyzed the strategies of behavior of large Russian entrepreneurs in the conditions of economic and political sanctions from the West in relation to our country.  A leading expert in pension insurance, prof. A.K. Solovyov, drew the attention of the conference participants to the importance of labor market digital transformation in Russia. An active discussion unfolded after the report of Professor, Head of the Sector of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences O.S. Sukharev, who raised the issues of the need for strategic planning in our country and improving the ways of technological restructuring of the economy towards the predominance of the manufacturing industry.  Our colleague from the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, M.A. Pechenskaya-Polishchuk, presented a deep quantitative and qualitative analysis of the imposing sanctions’ tax consequences on large metallurgical companies in Russia.  About qualitative changes in the domestic economy, namely, about the transition from extensive development to intensification of production, said Doctor of Geographical Sciences, prof. V.A. Shuper. 

The reports of the section moderated by Doctor of Economics, First Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Theory S.A. Tolkachev and PhD in Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory I.V. Makarova were devoted to the unfolding discussion on the ways of development of the Russian economy. We note the reports of E.A. Skoblikov, President of the Fund for Financial Initiatives, B.D. Matrizaev, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory of the University of Finance, V.S. Minchichova, Associate Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Business.
