On April 27, 2023, the VI Forum of University Rectors of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran started on the site of the Intellectual Center – the Moscow University Library. The opening ceremony was attended by Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Kazem Jalali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Russia, as well as heads of 130 Russian and Iranian universities.
The annual forum was launched by Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, who noted that Russia and Iran are consistently pursuing a course to expand bilateral cooperation in all key areas.
The head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, Valery Falkov, emphasized that the training of Iranian national personnel at Russian universities is one of the main areas of cooperation between the states.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Russia and President of the Iranian leading universities rectors’ summit, Rector of Tehran University Seyed Mohammad Moghimi also made welcoming remarks.
As part of the forum program, a ceremony was held to sign an agreement on cooperation between the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and the Allameh Tabataba’i University, the largest Iranian educational and research center in the field of humanities and social sciences. The document was signed by Stanislav Prokofiev, Rector of the FinU, and Abdollah Motamedi, Rector of Allameh Tabataba’i University.
The cooperation of universities will be aimed at the development of joint projects in the educational and research fields. The interaction between the parties will be carried out in a complex of directions, including the development of joint educational programs, the promotion of students and faculty academic mobility, and the holding of specialized events.
Stanislav Prokofiev, Rector of the FinU, stressed that a roadmap will be developed as part of cooperation, which will include a set of educational, research and scientific-educational activities. The first joint projects were identified during the visit of the delegation of Allameh Tabataba’i University to the FinU on April 25, 2023.
So after visiting the Educational and Scientific Laboratory of Experimental Psychology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications, getting acquainted with the latest research and developments of the Department of Psychology and Human Capital Development, Abdollah Motamedi proposed to organize academic exchanges of the faculty. Being a psychologist by education and a doctor of psychological sciences, he noted the high level of the FinU research base. The Iranian delegation was also introduced to the Cyberhub developments and the possibilities of integrating virtual technologies into the educational process.
Separately, it is necessary to note the interest of Allameh Tabataba’i University in the development of partnerships in political science – today their political science school is one of the best in Iran, having an applied orientation. During the official meeting on April 25, an agreement was reached on the development of a double-degree program in political science, as well as the organization of online meetings between the faculty and students as part of the “Visiting Professor” program. In addition to academic cooperation, Allameh Tabataba’i University offered to consider the possibility of joint publications, as well as the translation of FinU scientific literature into Persian for its promotion in the Iranian educational and research space. Iranian colleagues already have similar experience with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
