On February 8, 2023, a meeting of the FinU administration and the delegation of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Russia took place at the FinU. The agenda of the event included bilateral cooperation development in science and education.

The representatives of the Syrian delegation headed by Ambassador Bashar Jaafari were welcomed by the Rector of the FinU Stanislav Prokofiev.  In his opening speech, the Rector spoke about the FinU main activities, work with foreign students and ongoing international projects. 

“FinU, being one of the five largest universities in Russia, trains more than 50 thousand students, including more than 2 thousand students from 90 countries of the world. We are proud that there are representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic among them. Today, 28 students study at the FinU under the programs of pre-university training, bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate studies,” the Rector said.

He also added that throughout their studies at the FinU, foreign students actively participate in the extracurricular university life, manifesting themselves in social and creative activities.

In turn, Ambassador Bashar Jaafari thanked the FinU representatives for supporting students not only in their studies, but also in social life, and also expressed hope for further cooperation and the launch of joint projects in science and education.

During the negotiation, such areas of cooperation as the students’ active involvement in scientific and research work, the possibility of concluding partnership agreements with Syrian universities and the double-degree programs’ development were also highlighted.

On the behalf of the FinU, the meeting was also attended by FinU President Mikhail Eskindarov, Vice-Rector for Academic and Methodological Work Ekaterina Kameneva,  Vice-Rector for Social Work and Extracurricular Activities Alexander Kozharinov, Head of the Department of International Cooperation Lilia Prikhodko, Deputy Vice-Rector for Marketing and Work with Applicants Kira Artamonova.

In conclusion, the parties expressed confidence in the need to strengthen Russian-Syrian relations.

During the visit to the FinU, the guests also visited the museum of the FinU and talked with students.
