On December 15-16, 2022, the XIV International Scientific and Practical Conference “December Readings in Memory of S.B. Barnholtz” was held on the topic “Corporate Reporting: Expanding the Boundaries of Accounting,Control and Analytical Tools”.

 

The event was organized by the Department of Audit and Corporate Reporting of the Faculty of Taxes, Audit and Business Analysis together with the conference partner Reference Legal System Consultant Plus.

 

The conference was attended by more than 100 representatives of the scientific and professional community from the countries of the Eurasian Union: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Indian organizations cooperating with the FinU. The Russian conference participants were represented by specialists from St. Petersburg, Orenburg, Cheboksary, Stavropol, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh, Samara, Volgograd, Kazan, Krasnodar, Yoshkar-Ola, Makhachkala and a number of other Russian cities.

 

As part of the conference, a youth platform was working, where reports were heard by young representatives of FinU scientific schools, Russian and foreign universities. More than 150 young researchers took part in the youth sections’ work .

 

The following issues were considered at the conference in plenary reports and at the meetings of the sections

  • Evolution of economic entities reporting under economic transformation;
  • Methods of confirming the reliability and quality of reporting information;
  • Control and verification methods of non-financial information contained in documents of economic entities;
  • Analysis and control of investment activity;
  • Organization of tax control in economic entities.

 

Under the economic transformation, its orientation towards self-sufficiency and technological sovereignty, when changing foreign economic relations, a serious restructuring of the territorial and sectoral structure and management methods is necessary. This implies a serious restructuring of management processes and, first of all, accounting, control and analytical processes that form reliable, reliable and complete information for determining comprehensively justified management decisions on the development of economic entities, groups of enterprises and the Russian economy in general. Thus, it is necessary to clearly define the basic definitions, principles, boundaries and methods of accounting, control, analysis adequate to the current state and strategy of economic development.

 

To solve these tasks, during 2022, the Department of Audit and Corporate Reporting of the Faculty of Taxes, Audit and Business Analysis of the FinU held a series of round tables on capital movement accounting, disclosure and verification of information in corporate reporting. FinU researchers also participated in the work entitled “Accounting, Analytical and Control Processes of Information Society Economic Entities”, as well as related leading scientific schools of Russia (Rostov State University of Economics, St. Petersburg University of Economics and Finance, Kazan Federal University, Novosibirsk University of Economics and Management, Ural University of Economics, MEPhI and many others), representatives of the professional and business community.

 

The results of the round tables, as well as a presentation of the main results obtained in the course of applied scientific research conducted by the Department of Audit and Corporate Reporting of the Faculty of Taxes, Audit and Business Analysis as part of the state assignment to the FinU for 2022, are presented at the opening of the plenary session in the report of prof. R.P. Bulyga, prof. M.V. Melnik, prof. O.V. Rozhnova, prof. I.V. Safonova “Key Issues of Accounting and Analytical Processes in Modern Conditions”.

 

In the modern world, the role of reliable corporate reporting as the main means of business communications between the state, business and society is steadily increasing. In this regard, the procedures for confirming the reporting information reliability of economic entities should be carried out not only by audit firms, but also require deep methodological study and further development by public organizations, specialized scientific institutions, representatives of the governing bodies in the regions and the country. During the discussion, the views of the Russian leading scientific schools and foreign experience on these issues were systematized and summarized, and certain proposals were formulated to improve accounting, control and analytical processes, including:

  • definition and interpretation of corporate reporting, justification of the basic requirements for its preparation, presentation to the public, and interpretation;
  • the study of capital movement in the reproduction process as a methodological basis for the integrated concept of compilation and presentation, interpretation of integrated reports of economic entities;
  • trends in the expansion of ESG factors in economic entities reporting and the development of ESG reporting while ensuring its reliability based on the system development of indicators, methods of their measurement and reliable verification;
  • the development of basic categories related to reported information verification, as well as methods and methodologies for confirming the corporate reporting reliability as a direction for the formation of business audit.

 

All conference  participants agreed with the issues highlighted for discussion and stressed the need for coordination of research conducted in this direction by Russian researchers.

 

Of significant importance in the research is the development of improving national accounting, control, audit and analysis standards focused on the combination of global requirements in accounting, control and analytical processes and the geopolitical and organizational and economic features of the Russian economy, which will ensure mutual interest in economic cooperation with other countries.

 

Taking into account Russian economic transformation and new requirements for the qualification of economic personnel, one of the priorities of the conference participants is to strengthen interuniversity ties in the development of curricula, work programs and accounting and methodological materials for basic economic disciplines of various economic specialties, which will guarantee a unified approach to the training of highly qualified specialists.
