On December 15-16, 2022, the All-Russian scientific conference with international participation “Country ahead of time: to the 100th anniversary of the USSR Formation” was held at the FinU.

The purpose of the conference is scientific awareness of the global impact of the world’s first socialist state formation on internal and external political, social, cultural and economic processes. The participants of the discussion were academic community representatives, practitioners in the field of public administration and youth policy.

 

President of the Russian Academy of Education Olga Vasilyeva sent a video message to the event participants. In her welcoming speech, she noted the importance of the education system for solving the tasks facing the state.

 

“Today we are looking for ways to improve teacher education, new teaching methods in the conditions of rapid digitalization of all spheres of our life.  However, any innovations are possible only with the support of traditions,” the President of the Russian Academy of Education said. She also noted the role of mentoring in the value system of Soviet education and added that modern steps to revive this tradition should be done based on previous experience and accumulated scientific base.

 

The conference plenary session was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications of the FinU Alexander Shatilov, emphasizing its importance as a stage of public and professional expertise of the past. “As representatives of the humanitarian social science corporation, we are obliged to comprehend the Soviet experience and present an expert view on the problem of the continuity of Soviet practices in a new round of our history. The process of turbulence that has begun in the world, associated with the gradual transition to multipolarity, can lead to new associations and alliances, to a new international security architecture and domestic political realities, and here certain elements of the Soviet heritage can be actualized in various spheres,” Alexander Shatilov said.

 

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Petrov also addressed the event participants with a welcoming speech. In his speech, he noted the Soviet Union’ role  in the XX century in connection with its significant achievements. Oksana Gaman-Golutvina, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Comparative Politics of MGIMO, President of the Russian Political Science Association, also made a welcoming speech.

 

The plenary session was continued by specialized reports, during which the participants discussed issues related to the implementation effectiveness of the epoch-making and innovative in its global significance of the soviet project, the ideas and conditions of the USSR formation, the peculiarities of the political structure, the causes and consequences of the USSR collapse.

The work of the conference continued as part of thematic sections devoted to the political system, the structure of society, human capital, and the media work peculiarities in the USSR. The participants of the profile discussions also discussed the historical milestones and achievements of the Soviet people and the reflection of the era in the generations’ minds.
