On December 16, 2022, an event was held in the Great Hall of the Financial University, which all students, teachers and staff of the FinU are looking forward to – the Rector’s Hour.  As part of the traditional meeting, Stanislav Prokofiev answered questions about the educational, scientific, extracurricular activities of the FinU and other aspects of its work. The Rector thanked the participants of the event for their interest in University life and their willingness to work together for the FinU benefit.

At the beginning of the meeting, Stanislav Prokofiev spoke about the results of the FinU work during the year and noted the successful admission campaign, resulting in the FinU third place in the country in terms of the number of Olympiad applicants, and also accepted a record number of foreign students.

An important issue on the agenda was the strategic FinU development and digitalization. In this regard, Stanislav Prokofiev stressed the importance of cooperation between science and business in new technologies and added that FinU follows this trend by creating technological scientific laboratories and educational centers.

“FinU has become the main partner university of the Russian mobile operating system Aurora. As part of cooperation, a specialized laboratory has been opened on the FinU basis, which will allow us to introduce advanced domestic technologies and modern software and hardware solutions into the educational process,” Stanislav Prokofiev said.

The Rector also noted the interaction of the university and business in information security. “The specialized laboratory of the ECHELON company, a strategic partner of the FinU in IT security, has started working at the FinU. At this site, students, regardless of the level of basic training, will be able to receive training on the basics of the information security system.  Today, this is one of the key areas for all areas of business,” added the Rector.

As part of the question block about the learning process, much attention was paid to the quality and tools of teaching mathematics. The Rector stressed that the FinU implements unique educational courses – digital mathematics and data analysis, which are based on the R programming language. It allows you to perform scientific and work tasks by choosing the right solutions from an off-the-shelf IT library and combining them into models, like a constructor. Stanislav Prokofiev emphasized the wide range of applications of this tool for specialists in economics and management.

Another significant topic was the support of students’ entrepreneurial projects, “University’s task is to help interested students realize their ideas, create conditions and help launch the project,” Stanislav Prokofiev said.   For this purpose, an entrepreneurial center operates on the basis of the FinU, and other specialized programs have been launched. Thus, the Vice-Rector for Digitalization of the FinU, Grigory Ostapenko, noted the growing interest on the part of students in launching their own IT startups and spoke about the acceleration of a new social network student project – its authors have gone from developing an idea to finding investors, and now it is a full-fledged platform with 10 thousand users.

Students also asked questions related to the support of scientific initiatives, the development of international relations’ network, the launch of new sports and creative projects.

Concluding the meeting, Stanislav Prokofiev shared with the students his vision of the Rector’s mission related to the comprehensive improvement of the University’s positions in all areas of its work, and noted that this task can only be solved together by combining the efforts of the FinU management and students.
