The opening of the Engineering Laboratory took place at the Department of Information Technology and Big Data Analysis of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation on March 1, 2022.

The Engineering Laboratory is a new research and education center of the Financial University which focuses on the development of robotic systems and software using advanced technologies such as big data analysis, deep neural networks, and computer vision. It aims to create conditions for the development of competitive projects and training of highly qualified specialists in industrial automation and robotics.

Ilshat Yadykarovich Hasanshin , Director of the Engineering Centre, Head of the Robotics, IoT& Embedded Systems Lab.

The FinU Engineering Lab is:

A unique research center for Russia and the world oriented towards creating industrial robotic manipulators;
Modern equipment and a highly professional team of researchers;
An educational platform for the training of human resources for one of the most dynamic industries — AgriTech.

The lab is equipped with robot manipulators produced by the German company KUKA, the world leader in industrial robots and automation systems as well as 3D printers, an unmanned ground platform for the development of algorithms for the remote control of moving robotic devices, a quadcopter with a multispectral camera.

“The robotization index is about 10% in the industrial sphere, and in many other areas it is still based on hard manual labor that can and should be robotized. We aim to create solutions that are accessible to a wide range of users. The opening of the Engineering Lab gives us the impetus for fruitful work in this direction. Together with our faculty, students, and partner companies we want to change the world for the better", said Dean of the Faculty of IT&BDA Vladimir I. Solovyev at the opening of the Engineering Lab.

General director of ‘Inspair’, official system integrator of KUKA Robotics Russia company, Sergey S. Mikhalevich demonstrated possibilities of KUKA robots .

“The equipment of the Engineering Lab makes it possible to develop both small individual devices and robotic complexes, which are used for carrying out certain tasks at the production facilities . Students will be able to learn how to use manipulators and to work as robot complex operators in the future”, noted S.S. Mikhalevich

In 2021, a FinU team from the Department of Data Analysis and Machine Learning, together with the Laboratory of Machine Technology for the Cultivation of Perennial Crops of the Federal Scientific Agroengineering Center VIM, introduced a fruit-harvesting robot. The accuracy of fruit determination and the speed of harvesting of the robot is higher than the results of similar robots already present on the world market (more).
