The Federal State Educational Budgetary Institution of Higher Education “Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation” (hereinafter referred to as FinU) is one of the oldest Russian universities training economists, financiers, lawyers in financial law, mathematicians, IT specialists, sociologists and political scientists.

FinU started as an institute, an academy specializing in training specialists in the financial and banking sector, to a large scientific and educational complex. Currently, the educational and scientific structure of the FinU includes 8 faculties, which include: 30 educational and scientific departments; 7 scientific institutes; 10 educational and scientific centers; 18 laboratories; 18 departments, 14 of them basic: business incubator, FinU Business School (Institute) and Legal Clinic “Legal Support Center”. In addition, there are educational and scientific departments that are not part of the faculties, including 2 educational and scientific departments, 2 departments, Institute of Online Education, 9 scientific institutes and centers, 2 colleges, lyceum, 7 institutes, 2 centers and 5 higher schools of continuing education, Military Training Center.

The branch network has 27 branches, including 9 branches implementing higher education programs; 8 branches implementing higher and secondary vocational education programs; 10 branches implementing secondary vocational education programs, 1 faculties and 55 departments as part of higher education branches.

The total number of students enrolled in basic educational programs at the beginning of the 2021/2022 academic year was 47,245, including 32,648 full-time students, 3,064 full-time students, 11,533 part-time students. According to higher education programs – 33,686 people (bachelor’s degree – 35,242, master’s degree – 4,103), 12,003 students in secondary vocational education programs, 147 students in secondary general education programs.

FinU is a leading university of the Russian Federation, implementing 20 bachelor’s degree programs, 1 specialist’s degree programs, 20 master’s degree programs, 16 postgraduate training programs for faculty, 7 specialties of secondary vocational education. In 27 branches, 12 bachelor’s degree programs, 9 master’s degree programs, 7 specialties of secondary vocational education are being implemented. Secondary general education programs are implemented by the Lyceum of the FinU. The University (including branches) also implements 120 professional retraining programs, including MBA programs, 385 advanced training programs.

FinU is steadily expanding its presence in the world and national educational rankings, is in the top 1000 best universities in the world (interval group 801-1000 in the best universities’ ranking in the world QS World University Ranking WUR), ranks 140th in the QS Emerging Europe & Central Asia EECA – ranking of the best universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

In the subject rankings of the QS agency, FinU also occupies high positions – 365th place in the world and 8th in Russia in the concentration “Social Sciences and Management”, demonstrating excellent results in other concentrations: “Accounting and Finance” – 251st-300th in the world/3rd in Russia, “Economics and Econometrics” – 201st-250th/4th, “Business and Management” – 301st-350th/5th.

FinU is among world’s best universities in terms of its impact on the society sustainable development and involvement in achieving the global sustainable development goals defined by the UN, ranking in the range of 401st-600th in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE) and eighth among Russian universities participating in this study.

FinU consistently holds high positions in other international rankings: in “Three Missions of the University” 501st-550th place among the world’s best universities and 19th place among Russian universities; 2nd place in the IAAR Eurasian University Ranking; is in the top 10 of the ARES ranking of the European Chamber of Science and Industry.

In the universities’ ranking of the SCImago Institutes Rankings research group (Spain), based on scientometric data from Scopus, FinU ranks 663rd in the world and 74th among Russian universities; in the concentration “Economics, Econometrics and Finance” – 122nd in the world/3rd in Russia, “Energy” – 306/9, “Business, Management and Accounting” – 369th/5th, “Arts and Humanities” – 409th/11th, “Mathematics” – 613rd/64th, “Social Sciences” – 652nd/19th.

FinU is also highly evaluated by national educational rankings’ experts. According to the Russian ranking agency RAEX-Analytics, FinU ranks 14th among the 100 best universities in Russia, 6rd in terms of the demand level for alumni by employers, 14th in terms of conditions for obtaining a quality education.

In the subject rankings of the ecosystem “Three Missions of the FinU”, FinU is marked in the following concentrations: “Economics” – 4th place, “Management” – 5th place, “Law” – 7th place, “Sociology” – 8th place, “Philology and Journalism” – 13th place, “Mathematics” – 20th place.

FinU is in the top 25 of the National Ranking of universities according to Interfax, ranks 6th among universities providing training in the concentration of “State and Municipal Administration”.

The analytical center “Expert” has marked the FinU among the best universities in 9 subject areas and 2 subject sections at once: “Humanities” (10th-12th), “Management” (11th), “Economics” (14th-16th), "Social Sciences" (16th-18th), "Ecology" (17th-18th), "Mathematics" (26th), “Renewable energy” (29th-31st), “Energy” (30th), “Artificial Intelligence” (30th-31st), “Computer Science” (39th-42nd), “Engineering Sciences” (42nd).

In the ranking of entrepreneurial universities and business schools of the AC “Expert” ranking, FinU ranks 3rd; 4th in the number of startups (59 startups) and 3rd in investment volumes attracted by startups ($191.7 million).

FinU annually ranks among the top five in terms of employers’ demand for university alumni, the level of their salaries, the university influence, the communication effectiveness and entrepreneurial universities’ ranking (according to Forbes magazine, Russia Today, Head Hunter, SuperJob, etc.), FinU is also recognized as the second green university in Russia, which has demonstrated high environmental performance indicators.

Education Quality

FinU has created its own system for assessing the education quality. The main direction in education quality is the creation and development of mechanisms to ensure the quality of alumni’s training in accordance with the requirements of federal state educational standards, standards set by the university independently. Education quality is highly appreciated by the external environment (rankings, international, public and professional accreditation) and the internal environment (student surveys, monitoring of the effectiveness and quality of educational programs).

75% of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs have quality marks of external independent assessment – international and professional and public accreditation. All educational programs are designed and implemented jointly with partner employers.

Since 2023, the implementation of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs has been launched with the possibility of obtaining double degrees simultaneously.

Since 2021, the “2+2” system has been implemented at the FinU. After two years, students have formed universal skills that reflect the needs of the individual and society as a whole for the general cultural and socio-personal qualities of the alumni, basic professional knowledge has been formed that expands the horizons suitable for all profiles. The next two years are intended for a deeper study of specialized disciplines directly related to the chosen professional trajectory.

FinU is among the leading universities that have the right to develop their own educational standards. In total, 13 University’s bachelor’s degree educational standards and 14 University’s master’s degree educational standards have been developed, updated and approved, as well as requirements for training programs for the faculty in the postgraduate course of the FinU. About 80% of educational programs are implemented according to their own educational standards.

The development of the FinU educational activity is characterized by the expansion of the educational field and the constant updating of the implemented educational programs’ content.

Olympiads and Career Guidance

In the 2021/2022 academic year, more than 70 Olympiads were held at the FinU. The number of participants in the Olympiads is growing every year. So, if in 2017, as part of the Olympiad, “The mission is possible. Your vocation is a financier!” more than 10,000 people took part, then in 2020/2021 the number of participants increased to 52,500 people. In the 2019/2020 academic year, the Olympiad was included in the List of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the profile “History”. In the 2020/2021 academic year, the Olympiad was held for the first time in the English language profile. The geography of the Olympiad has also expanded: 85 regions of the Russian Federation, neighboring countries – Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, as well as a number of foreign countries - Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Burundi, Vietnam, China, Mongolia, Serbia, Turkey. New venues have appeared – in addition to 27 branches of the FinU and partner universities, the Olympiad is held on the basis of regional centers for identifying talented youth in Arkhangelsk, Kaliningrad, Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol, Syktyvkar, Khabarovsk, Shadrinsk, Yakutsk.

FinU is expanding its partner base and expanding the number of organizations with which it cooperates in organizing and conducting Olympiads and other intellectual tests. Among partner Olympiads:

  • All-Russian Olympiad for Schoolchildren (Social Studies);
  • Moscow School Olympiad (History and Social Studies);
  • Interregional Economic Olympiad for Schoolchildren named after N.D. Kondratiev;
  • Interdisciplinary Olympiad of Schoolchildren named after V.I. Vernadsky;
  • National Technological Olympiad;
  • All-Russian Olympiad on Financial Literacy, Financial Market and Consumer Protection of Financial Services;
  • International Financial Security Olympiad;
  • All-Russian Olympiad for students “I am a professional” (in the concentrations of “Personnel Management” and “Tourism”), as well as annual educational forums as part of the Olympiad;
  • All-Russian student competition “Your Move”, etc.

To unlock the potential and develop creative abilities of FinU students, the Student Olympiad Club is successfully functioning. This club includes students who are winners of Olympiads and other intellectual competitions. The number of club members is growing every year. The Club’s goal is to develop the Olympiad movement at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. For the members of the Student Olympiad Club, a unique opportunity was provided to study a second foreign language for free (French, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Italian, German).

The most talented and gifted participants represent the FinU at major international competitions. The most significant victories were brought by students to the FinU in the UK, Canada, Belgorod, Sochi.

As part of the work with talented youth for various age categories, a complex of career guidance events is held at the FinU on an ongoing basis, among which it is worth highlighting FINrise, the Youth Financial League, the Festival “Hope of the Future”, the Forum “Point of Growth”, “University of Dreams”, “Exciting Vacations of Generation Z”, “University Saturdays”, Festival of Financial Literacy, “It's Time for Parks”, Alumnus at the State Kremlin Palace, a Week of Professional Orientation at faculties, Excursions from employers to schoolchildren.

FinU organizes autumn/winter/spring youth programs in the Lesnoe Ozero Resort, Artek International Child Center, Russian Children’s Centre Okean, Russian Children’s Centre Orlyonok, Russian Children’s Centre Smena, as well as summer youth programs in Russia and abroad (Bulgaria, Italy).

In 2021, the Center for Assessment and Development of Managerial Competencies was opened on the basis of the FinU,”where students can undergo diagnostics of their leadership and managerial skills, developed by the methodologists of the ANO “Russia - Land of Opportunity”. During its operation, the Center has attracted more than 1,700 students. Not only students from Moscow, but also students from other regions of the Russian Federation are actively involved in projects and diagnostics of supra-professional skills and competencies.

Library and Information Complex

The main priority in the work of the Library and Information Complex is to attract all categories of users on the basis of prompt and high-quality library and bibliographic services, and the active use of global and domestic scientific and educational resources. Currently, the Library and Information Complex consists of 10 libraries in Moscow and 27 libraries in regional branches. The Library and Information Complex structure also includes 21 coworking zones. The book printing stock is 733,009 units of storage: including scientific, educational literature, literature in foreign languages, the fund of dissertations, periodicals, the fund of fiction, a collection of rarities of economic subjects. The Library and Information complex is equipped with technical means: computer equipment (374 computers), printers, MFPs, copiers, scanners, RFID equipment, plasma panels, projectors, devices for charging phones, servers. The local network of the Library and Information Complex is integrated into the university-wide computer network. An integral part of the Library and Information Complex foundation is a collection of e-resources that informatively supports the educational process and scientific work of the. To date, the collection unites 104 full-text databases and services with a volume of more than 495 million documents, which are accessed both by IP addresses of the FinU and remotely. Resources are available around the clock from any device, at the university and online. The Library and Information Complex actively uses the capabilities of social networks, blogs to promote services, study the target audience, is represented in Telegram, VKontakte, Yandex.Zen, RuTube.

Scientific Activity

The main objectives of the FinU in the scientific activity are:

  • development of relevant areas of scientific research as a basis for the creation of new knowledge, the formation and development of scientific schools and leading scientific and pedagogical teams;
  • effective use of the FinU scientific potential to solve urgent problems in the financial and economic sphere and to carry out socio-economic transformations in Russia;
  • creating conditions for the integration of scientific and educational activities;
  • ensuring the creation of scientific, educational and methodological products in demand in the FinU educational process and beyond;
  • protection of intellectual property of the FinU;
  • active involvement of students in scientific activities, the formation of their creative approach to solving practical problems of the upcoming professional activity;
  • improvement of cooperation with scientific and research specialized structures of the Russian Academy of Sciences, educational organizations of higher education, potential customers interested in the implementation of scientific projects (developments) in the profile of the FinU;
  • expansion of international cooperation with educational institutions of higher education and scientific organizations of foreign countries to enter the world system of science and education and conduct joint scientific research;
  • creation of conditions for ensuring admission to the FinU of additional budgetary and extra-budgetary funds through research (provision of services) in the scientific field.

The forms of scientific activity are:

  • scientific and research work of the faculty and students on topics relevant to the FinU, including conducting scientific research as part of budgetary, extra-budgetary financing and grants of various levels, as well as expert and analytical work;
  • organization and holding of scientific events (conferences, forums, seminars);
  • creation and functioning of scientific and educational clusters;
  • preparation of scientific publications;
  • training of highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel.

According to the university-wide comprehensive research topic “Formation of Conditions for Long-Term Sustainable Development of Russia: Theory and Practice”, research on 198 subtopics was organized in 6 main aspects:

  • Structural harmonization of the economy and its regulation to ensure long-term sustainable development of Russia;
  • Financial support for the transition to advanced development in Russia;
  • Scientific support of the Russia’s national security;
  • Socio-political, economic and legal conditions for the development of human potential, society and the state;
  • Development of digital technologies in the economy, society and the state;
  • Conditions for ensuring the sustainable development of the Russian national economy in a changing global community.

Based on the results of the conducted research, a collective monograph “Finance of Russia under Socio-Economic Transformations” was prepared and published in 2021.

Fundamental and applied scientific research carried out as part of state-funded financing on a state assignment, including in the interests of relevant Departments of the Government of the Russian Federation and other executive authorities of the Russian Federation, has been further developed.

In 2021, more than 500 FinU teachers and researchers, as well as more than 150 doctoral students, postgraduates and students were involved in conducting these studies. The results obtained were accepted by an expert commission from among the leading scientists and specialists of the FinU, corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as highly qualified independent experts, and the heads of research were heard with the involvement of specialists from relevant departments of the Government of the Russian Federation.

According to the results of scientific research as part of the state task, their high quality level is noted. In 2021, the number of intellectual activity results obtained has been significantly increased (more than 38). FinU continues to actively work on the widespread introduction of research results into the educational process, as well as measures are being taken to legally protect them, record them and promote them to the intellectual property market.

As part of extra-budgetary financing, the implementation of scientific research and the provision of services in the scientific field, including those that received grant support, has been successfully carried out. Legislative and executive authorities, as well as organizations of the banking sector, fuel and energy and military-industrial complexes, have traditionally become the largest customers in the contractual area.

In the process of carrying out scientific research supported by grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Academy of Sciences, including jointly with the subjects of the Russian Federation and foreign scientific foundations, positive results have been achieved in expanding cooperation and strengthening ties both at the national and international levels. The participation of young scientists under the age of 39 played a significant role in achieving these results.

On the basis of the FinU, 155 scientific events were held in 2021 with the participation of faculty, corresponding to the main priority areas of scientific research, including 56 international ones, of which the following can be distinguished:

  • International Scientific and Practical Conference "Cross-border Carbon Barriers in the global Economy";
  • International Scientific Conference “Russian Economic Journals: New Challenges and Development Drivers”;
  • III International Scientific and Practical Conference “Accounting, Control and Analysis Mechanisms Ensuring Modern and Future Economy”;
  • II International Scientific and Practical Forum;
  • II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Operational and Project Management: Strategies and Trends”;
  • XVII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics”;
  • III International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Mathematics and Concepts of Innovative Mathematical Education”;
  • International Scientific and Practical Conference of the XXIX Moses Readings “Russia in the XXI century: The Great Patriotic War and Historical Memory”;
  • IV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Accounting as Information Management Support: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”.

An interesting event in 2021 was the holding of weekly webinars "Wise Men Online". These webinars have become very popular on the Internet, they aroused great interest among students, faculty and researchers of both the FinU and other educational and scientific institutions. The discussions touched upon topical issues of economic development of the Russian Federation and the world community, as well as topics of a political and social nature. The total number of views of 29 webinar issues on the Internet exceeded 180,000.

As part of the scientific events, cooperation was established with external partners of the FinU: the Political Party “Russian Party of Pensioners for Social Justice”, the Association for the Development of Financial Literacy, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Association of Russian Banks (ARB), the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian Public Organization “Free Economic Society of Russia”, by the All-Russian public organization “Russian Geographical Society”, The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency for Tourism, the Federal Tax Service of Russia, etc.

In 2020/2021, FinU students participated in more than 200 external scientific events in Russia and neighboring countries. It should be noted that the student participation rate in external scientific events increased by 45%, while the number of wins in external events also increased 1.5 times.

The participation of FinU students in the following scientific events was especially successful:

  • In April 2021, FinU representatives took part in the IV All-Russian Scientific and Practical conference on the topic “Revenues of consolidated budgets of the subjects of the Russian Federation: regional practice and growth reserves”, which was held in Simferopol.
  • In October 2021, FinU representatives took part in the Youth Tourism Forum held in Kazan.
  • In November 2021, FinU representatives took part in the “Academy of Student Leaders” program. The training program from Rosmolodezh was aimed at developing the managerial potential of students of Russian universities. Natalia Gushan, as a FinU representative, based on the results of her project idea’s presentation, was invited by the organizers to participate in the 2nd and 3rd modules of the program, which are already taking place in 2022.
  • In September 2021, more than 50 FinU students took part in the opening of the new season of the All-Russian Accelerator of Social Initiatives RAISE. A team of 14 representatives of the Financial University was formed to participate in project activities within the framework of the All-Russian accelerator of social Initiatives RAISE.

In the 2020/2021 academic year, more than 100 scientific events were held on the territory of the Financial University with the involvement of students and postgraduates, including international, interuniversity and university-wide:

  • X International competition of scientific papers of students and postgraduates;

  • IV competition of FinU Scientific Student Societies, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the FinU Scientific Student Society;

  • Geographical Dctation-2020;
  • VII Annual Interuniversity Environmental Festival “VUZEKOFEST-2021”;
  • Winter Scientific School for Students and Postgraduates;
  • Summer Scientific School for students and postgraduates;
  • International competition of scientific papers of young scientists “Finance in the modern world”;
  • III International Scientific Conference “Global Challenges and Prospects of the Modern Economic Development”;
  • International Scientific and Practical Conference “Regions, go ahead!”;
  • II Interuniversity Student Scientific and Practical Conference "Turismo, hostelería y restauración en la nueva realidad" (“Tourism, hotel and restaurant business of the new reality”);
  • VI International Scientific Student Olympiad on the History of Economic Studies.

In the 2020/2021 academic year, the tradition of holding a Winter and Summer Scientific School for students and postgraduates has been preserved, in which more than 700 students took part. The Winter and Summer Scientific School of students and postgraduates included workshops and lectures.

In 2021, more than 30 scientific project groups continued to work at the FinU. Scientific project groups have a positive effect on the students’ involvement in research work, help to develop analytical and organizational skills, form basic competencies in finance, economics, management, law, sociology and political science, etc. So, more than 800 students participated in the work of the project groups in the reporting period.

In 2021, as part of the Competition for projects to create scientific and educational laboratories in the structure of faculties / branches of the FinU, 6 scientific and educational laboratories were created: “Robotics, IoT and Embedded Systems”, “Digitalization, System Research and Socio-Economic Measurements”, scientific and educational laboratory for the study of financial and economic behavior regional population, scientific and educational laboratory on the strategy of increasing the competitiveness of international university activities in the global digital educational space, scientific and educational laboratory “Locomotives of Growth”, scientific and educational laboratory “ANAPLAN (Analytical Planning)”.

In October 2021, the second Competition was held to determine the performers of research works among students of the FinU, as a result of which 14 students participate in scientific research.

Another popular trend among FinU students is the trend towards participation in temporary creative student groups to carry out research on topics offered by external customers. Temporary creative student groups in 2017/2018 academic year attracted 43 students as part of 8 temporary creative student groups, the indicators of 2018/2019 academic year exceeded them almost three times - 111 students as part of 22 temporary creative student groups, and in 2019/2020 academic year. There was a doubling of the previously achieved indicators of 241 students and postgraduates as part of 46 temporary creative student groups, in 2020/2021 academic year 543 students as part of 98 temporary creative student groups. In the 2021/2022 academic year, 1083 students were recruited as part of 141 temporary creative student groups.

In June 2021, for the first time, the defense of 6 research papers prepared by international temporary creative student collectives in the areas proposed by FinU international partners took place. 3 more projects will be defended in 2022. 46 students took part in the work as part of the international temporary creative student collectives. In October 2021, work began on 4 new international temporary creative student collectives.

FinU continued to actively involve students in research: in 2021, 263 students and postgraduates were involved in research as part of state assignments, grants and research projects of Russian and international foundations and organizations.

One of the most successful existing forms of involving FinU students in research work is the employment of students and postgraduates in research units as a junior researcher, intern researcher and laboratory assistant researcher as part of Fundamental research on a State assignment.

The publication activity of the FinU faculty remains at a high level.

The indicators of publication activity in 2021 increased compared to the previous year and amounted to:

  • The total number of published articles in the RSCI was 14,670 or 9.9 per faculty;
  • the cumulative impact factor of the journals in which the articles of the FinU authors are published is 3,483.6.

In the general ranking of universities and research organizations formed by the RSCI, FinU ranks:4th - by the number of publications over 5 years; 3rd - by the number of citations; 12th - by the Hirsch index.

According to the indicator “Comprehensive Score of Publication Effectiveness”, approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, FinU is ranked 1st place in Social Sciences and the overall 5th place (RSCI data).

The Department of Certification of Scientific Personnel (hereinafter referred to as the Department) provides organizational and technical support for the FinU activities for the independent awarding of academic degrees, activities for the preparation of dissertations in doctoral studies, and also coordinates draft conclusions of the FinU on completed dissertations, reviews of the FinU on dissertations as a leading organization.

In 2021, the Department ensured the activities of the Scientific Attestation Commission and 19 dissertation councils of the FinU. 59 dissertations for academic degrees were defended, including 8 doctoral and 51 candidate dissertations. Among those who defended themselves in 2021, 5 doctors of sciences and 12 PhDs are research and FinU faculty (29%). Of the total number of defenses (23 dissertations for the PhD degree were defended by graduates of the graduate school of the Financial University in 2020 (25% of the 2020 graduation), of which: 21 graduate students defended their dissertation within a year after graduation (23% of the 2020 graduation); defended dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Sciences (5) are trained in the doctoral program of the FinU.

The preparation of doctoral dissertations in the FinU doctoral program in 2021 was carried out by 13 doctoral students, including 7 FinU faculty members, of whom 4 people are doctoral students of targeted selection. As a doctoral student at the FinU, a FinU faculty member prepares a doctoral dissertation at the Institute of Psychology of Russian Academy of Sciences. Outside of doctoral studies, 65 FinU faculty members carry out doctoral dissertations’ preparation.

International Activities

Today, FinU is a leading scientific and educational center of international level, which is a forge of highly qualified personnel.

The FinU partner network includes more than 100 educational and scientific institutions from 37 countries of the world, on the basis of bilateral agreements with which various international programs and projects are implemented. Thus, in cooperation with the world’s leading universities from 15 countries, FinU implements more than 30 academic exchange programs, including double degree programs.

Every year, our university offers various additional education programs for foreign students in the formats of summer and winter schools, implemented, among other things, using online learning technologies. As part of such programs, participants can not only significantly improve their Russian language skills, but also learn about the history, culture and the current level of socio-economic development of our country.

FinU plays an active role in the life of the global educational community, participating in the work of various international organizations, associations and network universities. Our University has significant experience in the successful implementation of joint initiatives with foreign partners as part of cooperation with national educational agencies and scientific foundations in various international programs and projects (for example, in conducting fundamental and applied scientific research by international scientific teams together with national scientific foundations of the CIS countries, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, etc., initiatives of the Eurasian the Economic Commission, the Eurasian Network University, the Russian-African Network University, etc.). In addition, FinU traditionally organizes major international scientific events that bring together leading experts in their fields from around the world.

Thousands of foreign alumni from all over the world consider our university their alma mater. Currently, the number of foreign students at the FinU (including its branches) is reaching 2,000 people from about 100 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Due to the development and implementation of a multidimensional system of foreign students’ adaptation, the university has created a unique multicultural environment that allows representatives of different cultures to study comfortably and fully integrate into the FinU student community. The trust of our students is the best confirmation of the highest quality of education at our University, which provides all the opportunities for a successful career start and further work for the benefit of their Homeland’s economic development.

Youth Policy and Educational Work

The implementation of youth policy goals and educational work among students is one of the key elements of the FinU education system. It is carried out by the Vice-Rector for Social and Educational Work, the structural divisions supervised by him, deputy deans for educational work, teachers, as well as student public organizations. There are many creative, club and sports associations at the University.

The largest public student organization at the University is the Student Council, created with the aim of forming an active civic position of students, promoting the development of their independence, ability to self-organize and self-development. Every year, the Student Council organizes over 100 leisure, educational, social and sports events and projects, among which the following can be distinguished: the project on the adaptation of first-year students to the student and university environment “Coordination”, "Freshman Quest”, trainings aimed at developing self-management skills, for example, “School of the asset” and “School of the Asset 2”. A large student ball, inter-faculty music competition “In Unison”, Urban street culture festival “Urban Fest”.

Much attention is paid to supporting talented youth and promoting the development of creative activities of students. 16 creative teams and studios are successfully working: University Choir, Vocal ensemble “Finmuse”, Solo vocal Studio, Folk Song Ensemble, Student Theater “Pound”, Studio of presenters, Choreographic Studio “Frappé”, Folk dance Ensemble, Modern dance Group “Liberté”, Dance group “Lib Crew”, Studio ballroom dance, Step Forward Pair Dance Club, Ballet Studio, VIA Atmosphere, Drumming Ensemble, Inspiration Studio. During their existence, many creative performances have been staged, as well as a large number of awards have been won. In 2021 alone, the titles of Laureates were received in 3 international, 4 All-Russian, 2 city and 2 university festivals and competitions.

The club movement is widely developed – 11 different student clubs operate at the university: the Zebra Chess Club, the Expedition Club, the Literary Club, the Intellectual Games Club, the Case Club, the Debate Club, the Practice-Oriented club “Self-Government beyond Borders”, the Club of Young Financiers, the Search Party “Memory of the 13th Division of the People’s Militia”, Scandinavian Walking Club, Business English Club. The activities of the clubs are multifaceted and allow you to develop various skills, as well as participate in national and international projects. The chess club, for example, in 2021 received a grant in the amount of 1,000,000 rubles for the implementation of the All-Russian chess project “Your Move”, in which participants from 25 regions of Russia competed for the title of the best chess player.

Special attention is paid at the University to volunteer activities as part of the Volunteer Center. Its main task is to organize events of the so-called “event volunteering”, that is, volunteer activities aimed at helping to organize and conduct major significant events at the local, regional, federal and international levels (assistance at conferences, forums, holidays, concerts). In 2021, the organization celebrated its 5th anniversary, during which time over 5,000 people were involved in volunteering.

Since students from 90 countries study at the University, a program of socio-cultural and psychophysical adaptation has been developed and implemented for them. This program has been developed on the basis of its own scientific developments with the involvement of world-class specialists, includes 4 main stages and accompanies international students throughout their studies at the University. As part of this activity, many events and projects are implemented annually, among which the following can be distinguished: the student mentoring program “UniFriend”, Russian Russian Camp”Leader-Camp”field training sessions on the development of leadership qualities and skills in the field of conflict resolution; an open lecture hall on Russian history and culture “The Russian Way”, which is complemented by excursion programs, practical courses in the Russian language to overcome the language barrier, meetings with successful university graduates. International students are also provided with migration and visa support, which ensures their security in terms of the absence of violations of the migration legislation of the Russian Federation.

Social support for students

One of the areas of work of the FinU is social support and care for students and employees. For nonresident and foreign students, accommodation is provided in one of 11 residence halls room, block or apartment type. All residence halls regularly update and repair the room stock and communications, rooms for recreation and sports activities, and joint leisure activities have been created. Security is provided at the highest level, and the cost of accommodation is subsidized by the University administration and does not exceed 2,150 rubles per month.

Meals at the University are provided at a high quality level and can satisfy the most demanding tastes. In each of the academic buildings, as well as in the residence halls of the University, there are canteens and cafes where students, faculty and employees can refresh themselves at the lowest possible cost as part of a comprehensive nutrition system and continue to gain knowledge or work for the benefit of the national higher education and science.

A separate area of social support for students is expressed in the construction of a multifaceted system of material support for those in need, as well as excellent students and scientists, activists and athletes. To maintain the students’ motivation, the university provides for the payment of an increased state academic scholarship, the size and criteria of which are established annually jointly with the Student Council, as well as the payment of social, personal scholarships. A separate area of work is advising and accompanying students when applying for grants and scholarships from the President of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow and a number of other federal authorities, Russian and international foundations. The university also provides for the possibility of switching from paid to free tuition for those students who show excellent academic results.

For all categories of employees and students, the possibility of preferential accommodation is provided in the Lesnoye Ozero Resort educational and recreation complex, which is located in the Solnechnogorsk district of the Moscow region, 70 km from Moscow on the shore of the Istra reservoir. On 37 hectares of the complex, you can relax, improve your health or take part in scientific, sports, cultural and creative events that are held all year round.

Also, another area of social support is expressed in the provision of psychological support to students and university staff, which is provided by professionals. Psychological Support specialists help to increase efficiency in solving a wide range of problems and life situations. Assistance is free and anonymous and is provided as personal consultations or written answer to a question.

Sports life

FinU students are actively involved in sports and take part in numerous sports competitions held by state and public organizations.

Every year, one of the most important activities of the Sports Club is to attract student-athletes, their training and organization of participation in the national teams of the University in the Moscow Student Sports Games (MSSG). Over 700 students who represent the FinU in more than 70 sports take part in the competition. In recent years, FinU has been taking a leading position in student sports in Moscow. The result of this work was the bright victories of the student national teams in the XXXIII Moscow Student Sports Games and the conquest of the second team place among 54 educational institutions of higher education in Moscow and the Moscow region.

It is worth mentioning the national teams of the FinU in beach soccer (women, men), beach volleyball (men), combat sambo, ultimate frisbee, football (women), swimming, freestyle wrestling, judo, dance sports, aerobics, arm wrestling, athletics, fencing, handball, which take honorary prizes at the Moscow Student Sports Games, thereby strengthening the status and prestige of the FinU as one of the leaders of student sports in Moscow.

The main sporting event at the FinU is the annual Spartakiad of the FinU, which is held in 25 sports. In 2022, over 1,800 students took part in it. Among other major sporting events, it is worth highlighting the annual spring and autumn obstacle running competitions “Race of the Diehards”, and in winter – the massive “Winter Games”. During the summer holidays, the Sports Club organizes and conducts training camps for various sports in the Lesnoye Ozero Resort and a sports and recreation camp on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory.

Personnel policy

The FinU personnel policy is aimed at forming a professional, highly qualified, cohesive team that preserves and enhances the experience and traditions of the FinU and has a high motivation to create a university of the future.

The total number of employees of the FinU is about 6500 people, including 68.1% of Moscow employees and 31.9% of branch employees.

Among the faculty with academic degrees - more than 75.1% and more than 46.3% have academic titles:

  • 16.3% – Doctors of Sciences,
  • 58.8% are PhDs of Sciences,
  • 8.6% are professors,
  • 38.0% are associate professors and senior researchers.

The average age of the teaching staff is 48.3 years.

The main goal of the personnel policy is the formation of a responsible, professional, motivated team capable of fully realizing the strategic goals of the FinU aimed at improving the quality of the educational process and scientific activities.

One of the priority tasks of the personnel policy is the organization of a system of continuous additional professional education: annually more than 50% of full-time employees of the FinU are trained in 286 additional programs of the Institute for Advanced Training of Professional Retraining of Employees.

Large-scale educational events are held annually: the Winter School of Pedagogical Excellence and the Summer School of Professional Excellence, which is attended online and offline by more than 8500 employees of the FinU and other universities.

To develop the University as a self-learning organization and to maximize the professional and managerial potential of employees, the FinU implements Adaptation, Mentoring and Personnel Reserve programs - since 2017, 31% of reservists have been appointed to higher positions.

To encourage the achievements of employees at the FinU, its own system of awards has been developed, the medal “For Services to the Financial University”, the Gold and Silver badge “Honorary Employee of the Financial University”, etc. The competition “Laureate of the Rector of the Financial University Award” is held annually. In addition, employees of the personnel unit accompany the process of receiving state awards, awards of the President of the Russian Federation, government and departmental awards of the Russian Federation.
