The Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning as a part of the Faculty of Finance was established by the decision of the Rector and the Academic Council of the University on July 1, 2020 by separating a part of the faculty from the Department of Economic Theory.
The Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning continues the scientific and pedagogical line of the former Department of Macroeconomic Regulation at the FinU.
The Department of Macroeconomic Regulation was established by the decision of the Academic Council of the FinU on October 5, 2012 and was dissolved by merging with the Department of Economic Theory on July 1, 2016.
The first Head of the Department of Macroeconomic Regulation from 2013 to 2014 was Dmitry Evgenievich Sorokin, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a well-known scientist and organizer of scientific research, who made a significant contribution to the development of the position of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the strategy of the country’s socio-economic development.
The second head of the department from 2015 to 2016 was Sergey Vladimirovich Shmanev, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Full Member of the European Academy of Sciences (Germany, Hanover).
The scientific research in macroeconomic forecasting and planning was not interrupted in the period 2016-2020, when it developed within the Department of Economic Theory.
New Tasks of the Department:
The re-establishment of the Department with an updated name and composition is due to the extreme actualization in recent years of the tasks of strategic planning and system forecasting of socio-economic processes at the global and national levels. Currently, the world has entered a period of tectonic processes of global transformation. It is caused by objective long-term patterns of cyclical capitalism development, changes in technological and world economic patterns. In these conditions, the problem of developing adequate management solutions in the system of state economic forecasting and planning is actualized.
The Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning was established as a unique research and teaching center with a dominant vector of scientific activity. The Department includes specialized scientific centers of the FinU - the Center for Research on Long-term Patterns of Economic Development (Director of the Center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences S.Y. Glazyev) and the Center for Macroeconomic Research (Director - Professor E.V. Balatsky). The heads of the centers are well-known scientists, founders of scientific directions. The centers carry out scientific researches related to the problems of macroeconomic policy and forecasting, and the employees use the results of their latest researches in the educational process.
The main partner of the Department in the implementation of educational programs is the leading Russian scientific and methodological center of planning and forecasting, the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Currently, it is the leading scientific institution in the country conducting a full range of research on macroeconomic, sectoral, and regional forecasting.
The mission of the Department of Macroeconomic Forecasting and Planning is to educate highly professional economists in the field of planning and forecasting, with deep systemic knowledge, capable of design analytical, expert and research activities.
