In the autumn semester of 2023-2024, Diana Kotova, a student at the Faculty of International Economic Relations, went to study at one of the best economic universities in China - Shandong University of Finance and Economics.  Diana is happy to share her impressions about studying abroad,

For me, the academic exchange program is, first of all, an unforgettable experience that allowed me to take a fresh look at things I know. This was my first introduction to Asian culture, and it exceeded all expectations! China is a country of incredible beauty with traditional architecture, kind people, spicy food, magnificent views and amazing culture! I was honored to live in Shandong Province, the province of Confucius, where people breathed kindness and warmth, where everyone was ready to help you.

I’m sure it was one of the best periods of my life! During my 4 months in China, I managed to visit 9 cities, conquer 5 mountains, learn Chinese, climb the Great Wall of China, have fun at Disneyland, study the life of Confucius, become a special guest at the city beauty contest, learn about the inner workings of such international Chinese companies as King&Queen and Sinotruk, and most importantly fully immerse yourself in the local culture! I can’t help but mention the variety of Chinese food that you won’t find on the shelves of the store! However, Chinese food is very spicy, mostly fried, with lots of spices. Therefore, upon arrival in China, the first thing I learned was how to say “not spicy, please” in Chinese. However, I really loved Chinese hot pot, barbecue and meat buns!

I am also grateful to Shandong University of Economics and Finance for the warm welcome and constant care of us. The University has repeatedly organized various events for students’ team building, such as hiking, fairs and sports games. The teachers’ responsible and enthusiastic attitude to their work, as well as their maximum interest in our training, won me over. Teachers shared their experience and knowledge with warmth in their hearts, gave us the opportunity to learn as much as possible about Chinese culture and get in touch with it. The campus of our University was located in a very cozy place, not far from the city center, at the foot of the mountain. On the campus there was a sports hall, a magnificent stadium with mountain views, a library, a chain of shops and salons, 2 canteens, a park and a post office. You could say it was a small town inside the city.

And the most valuable thing I got from this trip were friends and mentors from different countries. I couldn't imagine how much I would be connected to these people and how difficult it would be for us to say goodbye. I hope we can keep in touch for many years to come!

I fell in love with China so much that I even thought about applying for a master’s degree in China! Of course, I don’t want to make any predictions, let’s see what happens!

In conclusion, I want to say that the fall semester has become an unforgettable chapter of my life! To be honest, I doubted this trip for a long time, but now I can say with confidence that it was in vain! Don’t be afraid! Develop, expand your borders, travel, explore the cultures of other countries, study and make new acquaintances! Everything is only up to you! Catch such a great opportunity!

祝你好运!上
