FinU and Rospatent to Jointly Train Specialists in Intellectual Property Management

On December 1, 2023, a solemn ceremony of signing an agreement between the FinU and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) took place at the Russia exhibition and Forum. The parties agreed to establish a Basic Department of Rospatent “Intellectual Property Management” at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the FinU. The main task of the new department is to include issues of security, preservation, promotion and commercialization of intellectual property in educational processes.

Stanislav Prokofiev, FinU Rector, emphasized the role of intellectual property for the country’s technological development. “The issues of working with intellectual property solving the problem of building the technological sovereignty of our country are becoming the most urgent.  FinU attaches great importance to intellectual property development and instills a culture of working with it from the student years. This year, for the first time in the University’s history, 4 student projects developed on the basis of our Business Incubator received patents, and 9 initiatives of our students entered the top of the best technical projects selected by experts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This is a very important step in the development of student technological entrepreneurship and together with Rospatent we will continue to improve work in this area,” Stanislav Prokofiev said.

In turn, the head of Rospatent, Yuri Zubov, noted the importance of cooperation between the FinU and the Department and added that the launch of the basic department of Rospatent will help expand the skills of specialists in economics and innovation.

“The joint implementation of educational programs will allow training professionals in knowledge-intensive project management and having interdisciplinary knowledge, both in legal protection of intellectual property results, and auditing of the organization’s assets, accounting and evaluation of relevant intangible assets,” Yuri Zubov explained.

The parties also expressed confidence that the Basic Department of Rospatent will become a center for the development of inter-faculty innovative projects that allow students to gain not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical experience working with intellectual property objects at all stages of its creation and implementation.

In the future, a series of open lectures by Rospatent is planned on the basis of the Department, the introduction of additional education programs, including for the faculty, as well as joint competitions for students and participants of acceleration programs.

The signing ceremony was completed by a tour of the stand of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation “Financial Technologies at the service of people”, during which Stanislav Prokofiev and Yuri Zubov examined the integrative exposition and tested the developments of the FinU Cyberhub Center - the VR simulator “Investor's Way” and “VR Campus”.
