Department of Sports Management and Marketing

About the department

The Department of Sports Management and Marketing of the Faculty “Higher School of Management” runs bachelor, master and postgraduate programs. Our main task is to train managers for all areas of the sports industry:

  • Sports federations,
  • Sports clubs,
  • Institutions of sports infrastructure (stadiums, ski resorts, ski slopes),
  • Sports equipment manufacturers,
  • Fitness clubs,
  • Sports organizations,
  • Sports media,
  • Bookmaker companies.

We train top managers and executives who are ready to develop an existing or create a new business in sports, taking into account the difficult realities of the modern global and Russian economy.

Our main focus is on a unique practical knowledge base, supported by cooperation with leading sports organizations. Lectures by sports industry leaders and field events at sports facilities are regularly organized for students. We provide support for internships and work placements with our partners without interrupting the educational process. In addition, a number of professional retraining programs are organized.

In addition, the Department actively develops scientific and applied research in sports economics and management, including cooperation with foreign universities, research centers and international federations:

  • Strategic management of sport industry entities and improvement of the efficiency of their activities,
  • Sport marketing strategies,
  • Improvement of financial stability and investment attractiveness of sports organizations,
  • Assessing the social impact of investments in popular sports (SROI),
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of public-private partnership projects in the sports industry,
  • Corporate social responsibility of sport organizations,
  • Developing and evaluating the effectiveness of ESG projects in the sports industry. Sustainable development,
  • Crisis management in the sport sector,
  • Development of sport tourism,
  • Assessing the impact of sports infrastructure on the residential and commercial real estate market,
  • Improving the organization and support of entrepreneurial activities in sports,
  • Valuation of sports clubs and their assets,
  • Assessing the economic impact of holding major sports competitions,
  • Improving the pricing system for tickets and ticketing programs in the sports industry,
  • Developing recommendations for improving the pricing of player transfers,
  • Assessing the impact of sports results on the stock prices of sports organizations,
  • Assessing the impact of bookmakers on sports results and the popularity of sports in the country,
  • Applying a cost-based approach to the management of a sports organization (value-based management),
  • Application and modernization of UEFA Financial Fair Play rules for Russian football clubs,
  • Formation of indices and funds from shares of sports industry companies,
  • Innovation management in sports industry.
