September 26, the FinU International Service held a meeting with the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication at the Financial University. During the meeting Deputy Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Andrey Rementsov and Deputy Head of the Department for Education and Methods of Teaching Elena Ganina discussed the results of online testing of foreign first year undergraduates who are studying the discipline “Foreign Language (Russian Language)”, as well as educational and methodical support of the disciplines “Foreign Language (Russian Language)” and “Foreign Language in the Professional Sphere (Russian Language)”.

It was noted that the team of Russian language teachers from the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication, the International Student and Visiting Professor Department, as well as the Center for Online Testing and Proctoring carried out a lot of work while organising and conducting online testing to determine the level of Russian language proficiency.

135 participants were tested, with 21 completing an additional oral interview. Thus, students were assigned to different language groups depending on their level.

During the meeting, Russian language teachers from the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication introduced a set of teaching aids for foreign undergraduate students. The materials are aimed at 1,2, or 3 year students who want to improve their academic writing skills in such subjects as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, as well as Finance, Money and Credit.

It should be noted that students struggle especially with these disciplines due to the fact that they don’t know professional terminology. Thus, in recent years, the FinU International Service and the team from the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication have been systematically collaborating to improve the effectiveness of education and to maintain the enrollment of foreign trainees.
