September 15, Alexander Linnikov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, aired on the news of the channel “Russia-24” with a commentary on providing the loan to the Republic of Belarus.
The State Duma passed a bill in the second reading which allows the government to grant non-planned loans to other countries. The Ministers of Finance of Russia and Belarus have conducted negotiations, as a result of which Russia will provide Belarus a loan of $1.5 billion.
Provision of additional loans to the Republic of Belarus is a necessary step taken by the Russian authorities, but, to a large extent, quite risky. Belarus is going through a profound political crisis and is on the verge of international isolation. This means that Belarusian exports may decline due to the obvious reasons
