The Olympiad is held as part of the national project “Science and Universities” supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Rossotrudnichestvo. The project organizer is the Global Universities Association.

“Domestic education has always been popular among citizens of other countries. Russia is among the world’s top ten in foreign students’ numbers. The Open Doors Olympiad is a great opportunity for young people to enroll in master’s degree academic programs and postgraduate studies at our universities for free without entrance tests. This year, about 30 thousand people from 176 countries have already registered to participate in the competitions,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

Over 5 years, more than 245 thousand young people from 197 countries took part in the Olympiad. Of these, 2.8 thousand have the right to free education at Russian universities.

The first stage of the Olympiad will be held from December 12 to 21, 2022, the second – from January 10 to January 19, 2023, the third stage for postgraduate participants will last from February 11 to March 9.

The lists of winners for the master’s degree track will be published in mid-February 2023, and for the postgraduate track – in mid-March. You can use the admission right for two years.

“Over the past three years, the number of foreign students in our universities has increased by 26 thousand people and by the end of 2021 amounted to 324 thousand people. Currently, such Olympiad profiles as “Engineering and Technology”, “Clinical Medicine and Public Health”, “Computer Science and Data Science” and “Biology and Biotechnology” are the most popular among applicants from abroad. Foreigners willing to study at Russian universities have filled out more than 40 thousand portfolios for participation, of which more than 10 thousand are on the postgraduate track, which indicates a desire to do science in Russia,” said Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

This year, 14 profiles are available for participants. A list of them can be found on the project’s website. Each has two tracks: for master’s degree students and postgraduates. Participants can take intellectual tests on several profiles at once, and one or both tracks.

Foreign citizens who have a higher education or are final-year students in 2023 – applicants of master’s degree programs and postgraduate studies, as well as stateless persons, including Russians living abroad, can take part in the Olympiad.

You can apply for participation in the Olympiad until December 10, 2022 by following the link.

Young people must fill out a portfolio and write a motivational letter about the reasons for choosing a profile, and why they want to study in Russia, as well as complete Olympiad tasks. An online interview with a potential supervisor is provided for the postgraduate course track.
