Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation has traditionally been among the significant participants of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a leading international platform for the discussion of key issues on the global economic agenda and the exchange of best practices and key competences to ensure sustainable development.

Within the framework of SPIEF-2022, Rector of the Financial University Prof. Stanislav Prokofiev, Doctor of Economics, took part in the discussion on the most pressing issues of the country’s economic development.

On June 16, 2022, Stanislav Prokofiev, Rector of the Financial University, spoke at the session “Internationalization of Russian Higher Education in Modern Conditions” within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The discussion was dedicated to issues of interaction with foreign partners and access to new international educational markets in new realities. Pavel Shevtsov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, moderated the discussion.

The participants discussed the new challenges which universities and the educational and scientific communities of Russia are currently facing as well as the entry of Russian educational organizations into new international educational markets and the experience of developing network universities for the internationalization of education. The experts also touched upon the issue of switching to a grant system to attract foreign students.

“Since education cannot be imagined without science, it is very important – especially in these difficult conditions – to comply with national priorities in terms not only of research areas, but also in a good sense of headhunting the most talented young researchers to attract them to graduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies. <...> We need to attract more foreign scholars to work with us. Therefore, it is proposed to devise a grant-scholarship model under the names of scientists. And the names of scientists are scientific directions. Such a system has been operating quite successfully in many countries of the world for many years. It seems to me that it is time we created something like this Russia,” commented Stanislav Prokofiev.

On June 17, 2022, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, FinU Rector Stanislav Prokofiev took part in a thematic session on the best practices of private business participation in achieving national development goals.  The agenda of the discussion included the issues of developing, identifying and scaling the best practices of public-private partnership, taking into account international experience. The experts paid special attention to the topic of motivating businesses to get involved in achieving national goals and forming a sovereign ESG model of sustainable development for the state and corporations.

“This approach is the transformation of global themes, approaches to Russian conditions. Naturally, within the framework of ESG approaches (Environmental, Social, and Governance), it is necessary to detail the requirements for socially responsible business, bringing them to specific indicators, i.e. to metrics. As a result, specific indicators should be formulated, which should be met by a socially responsible company that, together with the state, participates in achieving long-term sustainable development goals. After that, we need to think about what preferences this company can have from the state,” shared Stanislav Prokofiev.

The main business program of SPIEF-2022 was divided into four thematic areas dedicated to the challenges of the time, the anti-crisis agenda, the investment climate in the regions, the development of the financial market and key sectors of the Russian economy and human capital.
