On June 8, 2022, the anniversary X annual forum of universities “The Future of Higher Education” was held in Moscow, organized by the rating agency RAEX. The purpose of the forum is to discuss the tasks and tools to improve the competitiveness of Russian universities, considering changes in the national and global agendas.

Traditionally, delegates of relevant ministries and departments, heads of leading universities, representatives of academic and expert communities, as well as employer companies and the media became participants of the forum.

The forum opened with a plenary discussion “New Challenges for Higher Education: Strategic Goals and Objectives of the Moment”, which was attended by Stanislav Prokofiev, FinU Rector.  Rectors of leading Russian universities, such as Bauman Moscow State Technical University, ITMO University, MIPT, NUST MISIS, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and others also participated in the discussion. During the meeting, the participants discussed the impact of sanctions on the format of universities’ work, noted the pros and cons of Russia’s participation in the Bologna process and told about the priority directions of the domestic higher school development, considering the changed geopolitical situation.

In his speech, Stanislav Prokofiev, FinU Rector said that “in the main areas of training implemented at the FinU, the three-level system “bachelor’s studies – master’s studies - postgraduate studies” has generally justified itself, as evidenced by the high percentage of graduates’ employment - 95%.”  Stanislav Prokofiev also emphasized, “If we are talking not about the socio-economic sphere of education, but about medicine, engineering, defense industry and construction, then in order to strengthen practical training and preserve basic fundamental knowledge, it is quite acceptable to increase the duration of training in these areas and, possibly, return to the specialty. Changes should take place only to improve the quality of the educational process. And, of course, before changes, it is necessary to conduct a detailed analysis of the existing experience. The task of universities today is to provide students with the opportunity to form individual development trajectories. In this regard, strengthening the flexibility and effectiveness of educational programs, the development of the model “2+2+2” will be more popular." Answering the question about the most important academic subjects for a modern student, Stanislav Prokofiev, FinU Rector noted Mathematics, Applied Computer Science and highlighted the need to improve the general cultural level of students, as well as the importance of learning a second foreign language besides English.

Within the framework of the forum, the XI annual rating of the best universities in Russia RAEX-100 was presented, and the award ceremony of leading universities was also held. The Financial University, having scored 3,9806 points, entered the TOP 20 of the rating, and received an award in the nomination “For Contribution to the Development of Higher Education in Russia”.
