On April 22, 2022, Kirill Babaev, Dean of the Faculty of International Economic Relations, Doctor of Philology, gave a lecture at the Financial University.

The new Head of the Faculty was introduced to students and staff by FinU Rector Stanislav Prokofiev, who noted his achievements in various fields of activity. 

“Kirill  Babayev combines the talents of a scholar, businessman, and traveler. This is a man who headed key departments in large corporations and today is the First Vice President of the Alfa Group Consortium. He also took over the supervision of a large scientific center the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences,” said Rector.

Rector Prokofiev expressed hope that this experience will allow Kirill Babayev to give the Faculty of IER a new impetus, to reengineer the tasks of the Faculty, and reorient its work to new directions.

The Dean of IER, in turn, thanked the Rector of the University for the trust and added that this experience would be a new challenge for him. He told the audience about his experience in science, management and business, noting that it was this combination of directions that made it possible to head one of the most prestigious FinU Faculties and further contribute to its development in constantly changing external circumstances.

The lecture of the new Dean was dedicated to fundamental documents in the history of the world economy. Kirill Babayev noted the importance of historical artifacts for economic development, since they formed the current world economic system. He spoke about ten fundamental documents and phenomena, from ancient historical monuments to modern economic instruments.

During the lecture, the audience learned about economic thought development, the formation and development of writing, the appearance of the first banknotes, the issuance of the first shares and credit cards. Kirill Babayev focused on the emergence of financial pyramids and the risks associated with their work, and also outlined the prospects for modern financial instruments development. At the end of the lecture, the students asked the speaker questions about the development trends in the modern economic system.

FinU Honorary President Alla Gryaznova also took part in the meeting with students. She thanked the speaker for an interesting and informative lecture, and also proposed an essay contest for students based on Grigory Sokolnikov’s book “Unlearned Lessons of NEP”.

Kirill Babaev is a Russian scientist, Doctor of Philology, Director of the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences, First Vice President of the Alfa Group Consortium. ​​ Winner of the All-Russian management competition “Leaders of Russia”, graduate of the High-Potential Management Personnel Reserve Program, winner of the awards “Media Manager of Russia”, “Silver Archer”, as well as the prize “Educator” in the field of popular science. He authored  12 monographs published in Russian and English, and more than 60 scientific publications on history, linguistics, ethnography, and international relations. He speaks 12 languages, has been awarded medals of the Ironman Triathlon Race and the Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim.
